That "Official Starting Guide" for Yurikuma is 80 pages of pure gold. I am so happy
that I bought it. I really hope that they will translate it into English. It is absolutely
astounding to see the fine detail which they have planned for the imaginary Yurikuma
universe. I am only slowly working through it, and I'll post something on the threads
if I see anything relevant to the other issues that you raised. I always read the mini-
synopsis that gets posted on the official YKA website about 3 or 4 days prior to the
episode airing in Tokyo. So that gives me a lot of warning to prepare. As a result,
I knew that Kaoru would be an important character in Episode 5. So I immediately
went to the "Official Starting Guide" for all of the details. Indeed, the first obvious
question is, what's with her garter belts? I plead guilty to being an anime fan and
I will die that way. Your general perception is correct. There is a lot of open official
information provided to fans of the series in Japan which spoon feeds them on the
basic details. So it is very different from the experience of fans in the West, where
they have pretty to much have to figure it out on their own. Also, Western fans
seem to me to be very reductionistic. So what I mean is that they will analyze and
analyze and analyze. They scrape the bottom of the barrel for any conceivable
symbol or metaphor. Japanese fans aren't part of the same intellectual tradition.
From what I've seen, they'll just point out the most blatantly obvious things to
each other and then sit back and watch the show. Since you have only posted
ten comments on MAL threads since you joined in 2010, I'm looking forward to
about six months from now when you'll post another one. ;)

Hi! I answered your question about Kaoru's men's garters.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
