Sup! Grew during the early 2000s golden age of Anime in the West with Toonami and the like. Been in love with the medium ever since. I don't watch as much anymore as of 2018, but anime is still special to me and has shaped who I am today. I offer recommendations if asked, but I am open to any myself.
Obligatory Hot Takes:
#1: DBZ is the most influential anime of all time!
#2: Shounen anime is boring TO ME now as I don't feel it has done anything new in 10+ years
#3: I don't hate One Piece or Detective Conan, but I do not believe 1000+ episodes are needed to tell a story no matter how vast or expansive it is.
#4: Modern anime is GREAT, but we are oversaturated with too much Anime and I fear we could experience a crash in the industry. Nothing to back this up...just a fear I suppose.
#5: The whole dub vs sub discourse is silly and taken far too seriously. If you prefer the original Japanese dub that's great, but many fans would also prefer to watch their favorite anime in their native language and that's also great.
