Hello MyAnimeList.com and associated members,
My name is Mundobella, it is inspired by the words "beautiful world", as I strongly believe the world is a wonderful place. Also I love that Utada Hikaru song. I watch anime because I believe it can bring a whole new element to story telling that live action film and books can't. The abstract ideas, the surreal environments, the creation of ideal physical characteristics for your characters, are just some of the limits on film that are lifted by animation. This can be done for comedic or emotional effect and, if done well, can be more powerful/moving than what a book or movie are capable of. Granted, the newly created "Avatar" movie, has shown that film may soon be able to portray the surreal characteristics of some of the famous "wtf" animes like "Evangelion" and "Akira", but I don't believe we have to worry about anime's style of animation ever being taken out of the moving picture media arts.
This being said, I have very little tolerance for anime that has cheap animation, unless it is being used in a way to match the feeling of the series or moment within. My ideal anime is one that has a fantastic and believable love story, some elements of surreal or "larger than life" properties, proper character development (I'm sure you know what I mean here), and an appropriate melding of background music, scenery, and story that can really get the artist/writers' points across. The uniqueness of an anime is also something I value, and can be done by the cleverness of the individual characters or the grandeur of the environment created by the artists.
I personally believe the best animes are ones that can make 2 things happen. The first are the ability to create scenes that incorporate music, character relationship development, animation and story progression in to one moment that makes your hair stand on end. The mix of music and animation can make or break any anime, I believe, but when mixed well and done appropriately for the moment it often makes the anime something to be remembered.
The second thing is the ability to make proper "reveal moments". These are the moments when characters reveal a power they haven't been using, the moments when a character reveals they have had a secret back up plan all along, the moments when a character thought dead returns, the moments when other characters are surprised or put in awe by the actions of another. These can be very corny and predictable sometimes, but if done well they are moments we wait for as we progress through the episodes. My favorite of these is the "character return". When a character thought dead or that left behind comes back to save the day or return to the one they love (other variations can apply).
Hope that gives you some idea of why I love anime and why I've decided to join "myanimelist.net". Hope to see you around the site. (sorry for any typo's or grammar mistakes)
~ Mundobella

How I score:
I try to keep a bell curve in my ratings. So as I watch more anime, some scores will go up and some will go down. That being said, here are how I interpret each number:
10 - My all time favorite anime. These have a high re-watch value and are the first anime I will recommend to anyone looking for something to watch. They leave you wanting more after each episode and can be used as some of the best methods of time wasting ever.
9 - These anime are fantastic but I usually have one or two complaints about them. They may also have a low re-watch value, or the sound isn't as great as it should, but are still amazing anime. The difference between a 9 and a 10 is that a 9 is one of the best anime I've seen, and a 10 is one of the best anime I've seen and has become one of my all time favorites.
8 - Great, unique anime that do what they do in an amazing way, but just aren't the kind of anime that I really love. If they are the kind that I love, I can point to one of my 9 or 10's and say "they did it better". 8, 9, and 10 are the numbers that really stick with me as I continue to watch more anime. Any that have been given these numbers are highly recommended to anyone.
7 - These anime are good, but not always memorable. It is fun watching them all the way through, and I would still recommend them, but you have to like the kind of anime that they represent to really get in to them. They can still be unique, but may not sell the uniqueness like an 8. If you like the genera they represent, you'll love this anime.
6 - I find a 6 to be a good anime, but believe that there are other anime that have done what they are trying to do. Still worth watching if you don't have anything else in mind.
5 - A 5 is still good in my mind. I can't say its bad, but I'm not sure I would recommend this to many people. To watch a 5, you have to like the genera that the anime is a part of, even more so than a 6 or a 7. Basically, if you like the genera that the anime represents, a 5 will be bearable and possibly even enjoyable for a majority of the series.
4 - Meh, but I guess I finished it.
3 - To each their own...I guess.
2 - I don't know how I'd rate a two...sorry I didn't put this on my drop list? Why'd I finish? I regret this time has been lost.
1 - No, nope, no one should watch this. I'm sorry.
*Some series will get lower ratings if the ending really bothered me. This is rare, but if an anime, for instance, was an 8 for me all the way through and then ended with a "this was all a dream" or a "the love story was never resolved" or a "think about what happened for yourself" ... well you better believe that that anime is going to be a 7 or a 6. Another case is if the anime was unfinished, and you have to read a manga to get a proper ending.
