You're right about anime having the potential to expand our minds. Unfortunately, the topical nature of forums runs counter to that as you can see from the negative flippant replies in your suggestion thread. I don't know (and it's probably irrelevant even if I did know) if they're being obstinate due to innate narrowmindedness or simply wish to protect the status quo they are comfortable with. :s
Actually, I dislike the facebook like button because it's one-dimensional. It hides the other possibilities: there are people who don't care and won't vote, there are those who disagree, there are those who are neutral, and there are those who don't wish to disclose their opinions. I'm not sure if that's exhaustive, but just from that, you can surmise how skewed a metric a single "on/off" option is.
I disagree with the summing of likes and dislikes as if one cancelled the other. You can get a zero from a half/half count from a thousand or from a million, but those two results imply different situations.
I do think your suggestion is at the very least the right beginning of something useful. However, if you look at the other recent suggestion threads, you can see people getting frustrated. If you peruse the very old threads, you can see Xinil used to grace them with his presence. That hasn't been happening in a long while I think.
Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be any standardized indicator as to which suggestions have been approved or rejected. You won't know if yours is being considered or hasn't even been noted yet. In the topics listing, there are no icons that show which threads have already been locked. You'd have to go look inside the thread itself.
Anyway, if you like exchanging ideas, feel free to message me from time to time. You can also join my club which is meant for brainstorming alternatives and analyzing social networking from the ground up. Haha! ^o^
