i am back -well, i was back a long time ago, but afraid to make my presence noticed-

so, leaving economy aside, how are you, my dear hanabishi? (does the name mean anything, btw? or it's just the name of a anime character?)
Hanabishi Mar 6, 2010 12:50 PM
Hey everyone! There's something wrong with my computer (or my internet connection) and I can't write any blog entries or comments with my own computer, I'm sorry.
I hope this will get fixed soon.
geyik Jan 28, 2010 7:37 AM
well, i've said i'm studying a bit of economics, right? :P but really, paxes that you actively pay are not that important -besides, it just makes sense that you pay more if you earn more, right?-, but there are also some taxes that are taken from you indirectly -like... when you buy something, a portion of the money you've paid goes to treasury- [for example, in turkey, common goods have a %8 kdv (added value tax) and luxury items have a %18 tax. there are also some more taxes, paid indirectly] and i thought that expensiveness of your goods were caused by a high amount of inderect taxes. then i wondered why would there be a need for such a policy etc etc... ^^ [btw, don't worry about your english, surely it ain't worse than mine ^^ ]

well, in theory our schools are also free, but not exactly. there are tution fees at university, also you are practically forced to pay -more or less- an amount for school up to 8th grade as well [high school is not free, just not mandatory] also, i don't think food is free. not in my school, at least; and most likely at anywhere else.

yep, your system is indeed nice. recently i was retelling our conversations to my father, and he stated that 'leave turkey aside, not even central europe has a social welfare system as good as in scandinavia' so... we have not-so-low taxes, but we also are lacking those kind of payments from government [well, there ARE such payments, but not very common]

also, sorry for late reply. i finally finished my finals and went back to home -though just for 3 weeks, it's great! ^^ -, so have been kind of busy >.>
geyik Jan 19, 2010 11:11 AM
i know it is :/ my father is a smoker -since 1st day of high school >.> talk about bad dorm-mates- and he can't quit, though he wants to and needs to. he's not as young as he used to be, or as you are ^^ that's why i don't smoke, because to quit is harder than to start [but also there are people who say 'ok, i won't smoke anymore' and don't. what a willpower o.O]

ok, so i went and did some market research xD a pack of cigatettes vary in the range (a bit more than 2 euros) and (around 3,5 euros), and people say 'holy shit, i'm not giving 3,5 for a pack of cigarettes! o.O' you see, it was cheaper before price increase at 1st of january -yaay! new year! ^^ [yeah, right >.>] - but friend, price they charge for cola is plain ridiculus o.O here 2½ lt of coca cola cost around 1,25 euros [well, there is also packaging... one can of cola is around 0,75 euro xD ]

price of tobacco may be justified as government's efforts to discourage people from smoking, but cola o.O are there any domestic brands of cola with lower prices? it may also be government's attempt to strenghten domestic industries by imposing high taxes on some products or so? or maybe overall wealth level is also high? do you know what finland's gdp per capita? or rather, let me check wikipedia, for finland 36,320$, for turkey 13,138$. see, that also may be a reason? ^^
geyik Jan 17, 2010 2:59 AM
hmm... seems like a hard job, and appearently a useful one. good luck there! ^^

yep, in turkey too. luckily i'm not a smoker ^^ so neither the indoor-smoking ban nor recent price increases (though still cheaper than europe and US, i guess) effect me, or rather, effect me positively because now i don't have to inhale other people's smoke, but still i don't see the reason to be smoke-nazi xD there may be places where one can smoke, and certainly a non-smoke country ideal is a bit over the top o.O but really, you should consider quitting, it's bad for your health :P
geyik Jan 15, 2010 1:05 PM
and what does that mean? o.O you'll instruct young people on how to use their free time, or what?

i don't think it's possible now. even my country got quite strict with smoking indoors (afaik to satisfy a conditions set for EU-candidates), so it only makes sense if EU countries as a whole got at least that strict with smoking. but yeah, i've been to greece once and it was just great, or so i felt due to being a tourist. but anyway, i enjoyed a lot on that trip ^^
geyik Jan 14, 2010 11:22 PM
that's why europe is great >.< recently my fascination with europe grew more and more, and there are signs that it'll continue this way.

i'm studying math atm, with a bit of economics, and you?
geyik Jan 14, 2010 9:21 AM
damn you MAL >.> well, anyway, that simply means we need to meet once again, right? :P

being a student is not fun enough? o.O but you see, you DO have kids ("I'm daddy, my friends are mommy, kids and couple of some sidekicks.") and i assume she is a she (but now i'm practically sure, else you'd be in a mixed dorm, which is a thought too radical for my expectations)

maybe i could, but i won't, long as it's not closer to my department than my current dorm is. but once i graduate i'll be coming there for my masters degree. i can't let your wife's enthusiasm to cook go to waste! :P
geyik Jan 13, 2010 1:06 PM
i see, but i STILL want a friend (okay, wifes are not a must) who makes pancakes :( also, you also have a daughter, right? somehow i assumed it can't be a boy, because otherwise... you'd have a more suitable candidate for father, right? xD

ok, that's fine with me. there's nothing wrong with disliking dresses too ^^

(wtf?! o.O i could not see our past conversations not in comments nor in pm box. was it all my imagination? or did MAL erased the past? o.O )
