Annie and Ymir are my two favourite characters in the entire show. When you read up all the chapters and is caught up, you will probably have a better understanding why I like her. ;) Also there are two attack on titan ova out at the moment. I think you should check them out. One is cannon the other is not so cannon.
I really like the manga a lot. I love the plot twist this series pull on us, just expect that you will get little answers and more questions in each chapters. also a lot of action as well. The pacing can be a bit slow, on top of that it's a monthly manga which makes the wait even more stressing. The manga does have about 40+ pages each month so it's not that bad.
Oh, you're reading from the very start? Well, when the anime ended I went straight to chapter 33 where the anime left off. To be honest the art in the early chapters is really not pleasing to the eyes. but don't force yourself, the second season will probably be out in 2015. ;)
