I was a member of Anime Keiken, an animation club in Pittsburgh in the early 90s. We had a house where we had our meetings (later a library basement, though that wasn't as fun). We'd typically bring fifty or sixty VCRs and dozens of TVs and set up dubbing stations throughout the house. One wandered from station to station, sampling the latest anime that this member or that member brought. Truly, it was a thing to behold.
Now, I don't do as much anime watching as I used to do, and am not really familiar with most of the modern standards. I am also a subtitle freak - there are very few, very very few english dubs that I am comfortable watching. Call me snobby, call me what you will, but I cannot stomach hammy, campy voice acting. Give me the original track any day, and slap a nice subtitle line below ... that's how I roll!
I'm an old-school anime guy!
