It's just been one episode, but so far it's not horrible. The antagonist is terribly generic though and I have already set up one or two theories on how it is probably going to end.
If those turn out to be true ... Welp.
One can watch it, just don't expect anything great. The introduction episode was also weaker than SAO 1's.
I watched lots of Shounen anime on German television as a kid (Naruto, Detective Conan, Yu-Gi-Oh!). While I liked those I highly disliked DBZ or One Piece, no idea why.
Then after a loooong break of Shounen anime and my interest in anime as a whole (I even was ridden by prejudices against anime and the anime community) my friend got me to watch Angel Beats. It was really entertaining and showed me that anime can be good. Then after an equally long break my brother got into anime and he and a good friend "forced" me to watch Madoka. Unfortunately they were talking the whole thing through giving away good parts and stuff. I didn't like it that much back in the day. This turned me off of anime for a good few months until I decided to give Clannad a try because they said it's soooo sad. I wanted to see it for myself and it was actually pretty emotional at some parts it even made my eyes wet. Then at the end of the summer holidays I browsed 4chan's /a/ board by coincidence and found a thread about the show Watamote. The girl on the thread image by (Tomoko) looked cute so I looked up where she was from and bam watched all (at that time) available 6 episodes in one night. The same night I started watching Attack On Titan and from that point on I was totally hooked by anime.
Rewatching Madoka for the first time was the overkill though. The best I have ever seen in any piece of media. A literal masterpiece.
Hey I read your SAO review and it was an interesting read. I think the first half of SAO would have been maybe a 6 if it was just for the first 14 episodes but when the second half came up it got worse on so many levels I just couldn't and didn't even want to take anything seriously anymore. The ending was lame and the plotholes became bigger that even just for entertainment I wouldn't recommend it. Shows which you just watch for popcorn feeling instead of characters or plot would be Shingeki no Kyojin in my opinion because it really has outstanding visuals with fresh designs and an even better soundtrack than SAO (even if I'm a Kajiura-Fanboy).
