I don't agree that Q doesn't explain anything or discards the first two movies. 3rd Impact happend. Hell happened. Because Shinji decided to be heroic and save Rei, and Eva Unit 01 (with his mother's soul in it) comes to aid. There is no way other characters, who are trying to survive in this world-after-apocalypse-after-another-apocalypse, wouldn't be angry with him. Basically, Shinji is abandoned, still physically and mentally 14 years old in a world where everybody else has experienced those 14 years of hell. Seeing how Shinji has always been a rash character, his actions in Q, while angering/annoying, are still what could be expected from the character. I would have liked more Misato/Asuka/Ritsuko/Mari screentime, but with how it's set up, I think 3.0 follows through quite well.
