Usamaru Furuya was clearly inspired by Suehiro Maruo's style, especially that of Wararu Kyuuketsuki. They are each extremely dark and erotic-grotesque.

Weird Storm Boy is like an exciting kid you knew back in elementary school: not so attentive in class and occasionally vague while speaking, but he's quite an impressive athlete. He enjoys playing soccer, gymnastics, and watching classic Universal monster movies with his brother, Laughing Vampire. You don't know too much about Laughing Vampire, but you saw him bringing groceries to an old woman in the neighborhood while walking home one evening; he looked sharp in a high school uniform, carrying a textbook on World War II and a motorcycle magazine to his chest. 

Last summer, the two brothers went to a traveling carnival on the edge of town for a magic show hosted by an incredibly short man, even shorter than Storm Boy. The magician pulled two white rabbits from out of a black top hat and placed them inside of a scarlet cage. Laughing Vampire told his brother to stay put while he stepped out to find a restroom, and departed the tent. He lit a cigarette and strolled in the direction of the carnival workers' encampment. While wandering through an alley used for storage, Laughing Vampire was drawn to the sound of an vicious argument from a nearby tent. Peeking through a hole in the canvas, he saw a man brandish a dagger and slice at a screaming woman, cutting her skin and slicing the straps of her dress and bra so that her chest became exposed. The sight of blood trailing down her curves was a shock to Laughing Vampire, who stumbled back and toppled over a tall stack of crates, a commotion that caused a caged parrot to begin squawking. Laughing Vampire fled through the alley and toward the magic show, hastening his pace at the sound of the tent canvas being torn apart by the man's blade. After reuniting with his brother, Laughing Vampire rode back home with Weird Storm Boy on their bicycles.

When the brothers retired to bed that night, Weird Storm Boy had terrifying dreams, but Laughing Vampire slept untroubled. read more

Both from the same mangaka - Suehiro Maruo. They have many similar scenes (e.g. the swinger masquerade) and both have the dark and mysterious atmosphere.

Yami no Hou e addpermalink

The theme in these two series feels really similar: they are both dark, hedonistic stories about people who gradually become unable to hold back their sexual desire. Thus, if you're more interested in the theme than the plot itself, you might really like the other title. The main difference is that Warau Kyuuketsuki is extremely violent and graphic, while Takato Yamamoto keeps his one-shot pretty subtle and very aesthetic.

two amazing mangas with a gothic and phantasmagorical vibe that involve the beauty and horror of being young, in love, and a vampire (also, both artists are two of the very best in the business by a long shot) - read 'em both at yr. earliest opportunity if you dig a good tale of the living dead!

Both are short horror stories, comprising of a couple of volumes each, and both show how wicked schoolchildren and teenagers can be.

Both are fascinating, somewhat confusing trips through the worst side of human nature and its violent collision with youth.  Insanity and the paranormal element are important in both stories, with a blurry line between them.
