Manga: Eyeshield 21
Both about runners who didn't know they had it in them. Though Sena works hard for the sport later into the series and Ookada works hard for Basketball right off the start. Dogashi Kaden's a very exciting quick read. Too bad the series doesn't go further.

Manga: Haikyuu!!
They both involve a protagonist who is short and improves in the sport they love. I recommend both of the manga, they both also have the same feel. Only difference is that High Kyuu is about volleyball and Dogashi kaden is about basketball.
