I happened to stumble upon this because it had the same translator, little did I know I was looking at something quite similar to Hakomari, yet complete different. The obvious similarity is of course the mystery aspect, which I'll elaborate on. What we have are uber-normal males who are forcibly dragged inexplicably by a certain beauty into a mystery by mere circumstance. Unlike Death Note where we are most of the time spectators, both Hakomari and Gekkou involve the reader in trying to figure out the plot. Hakomari tries to wrap everything up, leaving no instance unexplained while Gekkou prefers to leave a lot of aspects for  read more

The thumbnail seems identical but that is not all that meets the eyes. The main characters are similar in both works as they have personalities that are not straightforward and are instead playful characters. There is a hint of mystery prevalent in the works that sets the stone for them as more serious reads. Inner monolouges and an evident displeasement of the female characters are displayed for both male leads but character development impacts the course of the story. The expectations should lean towards a school life with minor world building and events occuring at school. There are traces of higher authorities so crimes will  read more

Both have a great lead couple with fun banter. The romance is also very nice, though they are quite a bit different in direction. Gekkou is more mystery too, whereas Bunny Girl Senpai has more drama and some supernatural material. Gekkou is also a lot shorter and a standalone story (1 novel + side stories). Bunny Girl Senpai is currently ongoing with 11+ novels in Japanese. Both novels are really, really good. Recommended.

Both light novels contains romance, detective and psychological elements with apathetic main character, who meets many other unique persons ("Gekkou" especially similar to the second volume of "Zaregoto Series").

Both series have great main couples who try their hardest to always get 'the high ground' in the conversation. This makes both series captivating to read as well as enjoyable stories. Both Spice and Wolf and Gekkou have a 'mystery to solve' whether its how to make profit from practically nada -nothing- or Gekkou's entire plot, it draws you in very effectively. Two of my favourite series... definitely if you liked one then you will enjoy the other.

Both novels feature a cynical protagonist and a sarcastic female who catches their attention. both are well written with snarky comments placed at the right times. Though Gekkou is a shorter series with just one volume.

Gekkou and Ame no Hi no Iris are both dark, dramatic and gripping tales with well-crafted and engaging atmospheres. In spite of this, they are both ultimately forward-looking, though Ame no Hi no Iris may have something more meaningful to say than Gekkou. They're both one-shots too, so they don't require much investment. Similarly, both one-shots have fluid writing with a lot of soul to them (at least in the translations). While reading Ame no Hi no Iris, I couldn't help but think that it had a similar 'feel' to Gekkou, though it's undoubtedly an improvement in terms of atmosphere. They're both worth a shot; standouts  read more
