If you like UC Gundam, then this a perfect manga for you since its basically a retelling of the original TV series from 0079. 

Both of these are mecha manga that focus heavily on character interaction and drama, the action in both series is very heavily focused on a singular pilot of a mech that are basically hailed as the best at what they do despite being complete noobs to mech piloting in each series. The drama is the main focus of both of these manga, and each series also happens to have mechs that focus on both hand to hand AND long range combat, making the combat in both series feel varied.
