Loveless (Manga)

Both characters are in similar situations. They both lost their older brother, and have been entrusted to their older brother's best friend. The older brother's death is very mysterious and almost suspicious in both manga, and in both cases appear to be more important to the plot than we think at first. Both main characters fall in love with their brother's best friend, who, in both manga, is an adult and much older than the Main, and is often referred to as a pedophile (jokingly by friends, usually.) Both main characters are cute, awkward and shy, but still very mentally and emotionally strong and intelligent, unlike most leads in shouju series. Both 'Brother's Best Friends' are over protective of the main character. They were both very, very close to the Main's older brother and would do anything to protect his sibling. But one of the biggest things that make these two shouju similar is that both manga have more action and violence and nitty gritty reality than you're typical romance.

Allthough Loveless is a shounen-ai and Dengeki diasy is just a shoujo I find the relationships between the two main characters and the situation with there dead, elder brothers similiar. Not to mention a sizeable age gap.

There is a shadow of misterious big brother over the main persons in both series. Age gap between couples. Computer and virtual world related things - I loved it in both series. And the cellphone - a bond between couple, an important thing in both stories.

The art style and fundamental plots are very similar. Young boy searching for his "missing" older brother. Joins forces with another guy to find his brother. Some "enemies" become friends and a "mysterious" organisation is involved. That being said the characters couldn't be less alike. Nai and Ritsuka are basically polar opposites and so are Gareki and Soubi.
Both are fantasy, mystery and even a little tragedy. One of the biggest differences between the two is the lack of subtle shounen-ai hints in Karnival which are present in Loveless. Although, to me, this is sorely missed, I am still feeling very intrigued by the story and hope the similarities between the two titles holds up when it comes to quality, as Loveless is certainly much loved! <3

With a sweet but sinister story, both main characters are innocent and young with mysterious elder brothers who might be behind grand conspiracies which would threaten all they know and hold dear. Beautiful art reigns supreme in both series, with interesting and thought-provoking casts that break the moulds of typical characters.
