| Nah. It's suppose to be an older sister relationship. She cares for him like he's family for sure though. I wonder if Misato has "real" romantic feelings for anyone actually. As she seems to just go to men for the love her father never gave her. It's a complex case though, I guess you could make the argument that she does but I think it's forever suppose to remain ambiguous. |

I disagree, Misato tried to be a mother to Shinji but she failed at it. She tried to be everything to Shinji, Mother, Friend, Lover, Mentor, Confident etc. but I want to know her real feelings. It is weird, did she see Shinji as a potential love interest? They kinda allude to something along those lines the whole series...... |

A better way of saying it is "the creator apparently giving otaku what they want but end up trolling them hard". And regardless of that, EoE is still canon, so any discussion of Misato's feeling towards Shinji has to take EoE into consideration. I guess that's true. Unfortunately she died before her true desires were shown like they were to everyone else, so this is intentional trolling of the audience hah. I guess the point is we are never suppose to understand Misato. |
| She said a line in EoE, about how she suggested she failed to be a mother to Shinji, but really imo, I don't think she knew what she wanted to be in her relationships to anyone in the series, even towards Kaji she goes back and forth if he's her lover, or just someone to screw around with. To me, if she wanted to be a mother figure, I'd assume since Asuka was living with them too, she would have experienced some sort of motherly feelings to her as well, and also...what kind of mother would French kiss their "son"?...(don't answer that) All in all, I don't think there's really any definite answer to the question. |

| No, she didn't love Shinji. Misato's love was too misguided. She only knew how to show Shinji love through physical (sexual) connection which only pushed Shinji away more. He needed a real mother, not a failure mother figure. The woman had no fucking clue of how to convey her love. At first, she was in love with Kaji until the end and then she pushed her romantic/sexual moves on Shinji because she had intimacy issues. |
