Because darkness, in general, has always been a threat to man. Although some good happens in the dark, you can't see as well. When you want to hide something, you keep it in a dark place where nobody will see it. And if something waits for you in the black of night, your eyes will not be able to see it. I think it's this fear of the hidden that created the first connotations of darkness as evil.

Human nature is very primal. If they can't control it, it scares the hell out of them. And if it scares them, it must die. Hence, man created fire, so that the darkness would "die".

And things that must die, by very short extension, are considered evil.

Yea. What you dont know you fear.

Darkness covers what is actually there so it could be anything from just air, to a baby dall, to some mofia person wanting to kill you. Light lets you see what is actually there which calms your fears because what you dont know you start to judge about what it could actually be.

Because dark colors are much better than bright colors, and evils are much better than good.

Off topic but, according to christans God exists outside of time, therefore, can't be old.

Existing outside of time doesn't mean you can't be old. It simply means you're unaffected by time's flow. In other words, he will not age. If you were 15 for a thousand years, you'd still be old.

origin might have been very prehistoric, when humans were still homonids

daytime is pretty safe in prehistoric africa when youre with a group, as for the night however, its different.

all the lions come out to eat the ancient humans, so night became a genetically embedded concept of all things evil and scary, therefore humans naturally dislike darkness

Lions- even the prehistoric kind- aren't nocturnal, so that ends that. You may see them active at night every now and then, but there was far larger, easier game to be had during the day.

However, the dark does hold mysteries. Because we can't see (very well) in darkness, any sound becomes monstrous and threatening. When you choose to hide something, you keep it away from the light of day, so that others may not see it. Back in the day, when communities were completely reliant upon each individual, something hidden could potentially destroy the whole group. You don't normally sneak out to do illegal/taboo things during the day; you wait until it's dark, or take such actions in dark places where you can't be seen. Even if you've been somewhere a million times during the day, it's a whole different realm at night.

uhh yea what they said lolz.
It's said that people get scared when they aren't able to see anything, and fear is kind of what created evil in the first place. Humans are day creatures, so we feel more comfortable during the day where we are able to see clearly.
Let's say we go back time and humans have stronger night vision than day vision (I'm trying to imagine this and it's hard lol), then maybe things would be a little different...

its nothing so complex. someone said it before. man fears what he does not know. way back when ya didnt have street lights ya couldnt see in the dark so you didnt know what was going on in there. hence darkness was the greatest fear. we inherited that trait although we know a lot more now

for me, the reason of darkness representing evil lies on the ground that that darkness is unknown, human fears from what he does not know, also form the power of darkness that conceals things. Dark colors are weaknesses of human nature. They aren't that evil :)

Star Wars is a good example in all of this . . .
Darkness . . . Hmm, eh I dunno really but everyone has darkness in their heart. You just can't see it in most people and online, pssh, this is online. No one is going to see shit in people, we just tell them what they want to believe. Ever notice that, dark side is colored in red light sabers and light side is colored in green or blue?
It represents them, these colors aren't dark or light, they represent dark or light.
It is a way for people to notice them, a way for people to know which is which.
If the Sith lord were to walk in to the Jedi council and say "Hey, my name is Bob." and they didn't know shit, THERE is where the color representation comes in, so he pulls out his light saber and they go "Oh, it's red so all we can assume is that he is evil because it's red, the signature color of the dark side." and well, you can imagine what goes on there. So the colors, dark and light, whatever they may be, represent evil and good, they are not eveil and good however.

And anyway, the reason red is used for evil is because it's the color of bloodshed.
Which is ironic, being that when ever a lightsaber slices someone, the wound is cauterized.

Xer0-san is right. There really is no blood in Star Wars.
If I'm crying at your funeral, then I'm laughing too hard. If you're crying at my funeral, then you're dead.
92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are part of the 8% who still listens to real music, copy and paste this into your signature....
If Abercrombie & Fitch said it wasn't cool to breathe anymore, the majority of the teenage population would die. If you are the other 2% laughing your asses off, copy and paste this into your signature...

Darkness hides a lot of stuff;
Brightness show it;
Those who are pure have nothing to hide;
The wicked ones deceive others, hiding whatever it takes, so that they are successful.

I think it kinda goes that way
