I didn't cry because the episode was too "in your face" with trying to make the audience cry. Way too melodramatic.

It started out quite strong, but gradually weakened.

When I watch anime I get kind of absorbed in it - as long as I find it good - so an objective point of wiev is out of question in my case. So yes, this was the first time I shed manly tears while watching an anime. I got a bit teary eyed - as usual - at first but the confession scene porbably flipped some kind of switch in me. I think it was good, even though lots of people say it was forced and the anime is overrated. The depth of their feelings and how they confronted their guilt came through, and from my point of wiev, that was the point of this anime.

The wtf moment which slapped me in the face was the start of the hide-and-seek scene. I instantly stopped crying and neatly organized the question marks on my table, which were constantly popping out of my head for like a minute. Shortly after that, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of this scene was to take them back to their childhood but it felt too much and made the whole thing funnier than expected.

All in all I found this anime awesome, as it gave me some food for thought and a kinda good story with tears on top.

It shook me a bit but I didn't get teary eyed or anything. Then again, no anime has made me cry yet.

It was good but not til the point i cried. The reason is simply it tries to make me cry every episode and i get used to their crying.

I had gotten sick of all the drama and yelling after episode 9. I even laughed at the beginning of ep. 11 when everyone cried at the shrine but near the resolution when the end theme song kicked in and everyone started crying I started crying like a girl with them. (I was like dammit) It was manufactured and melodramatic but it got me

I didn't. It was sad, but not to the edge.

The anime was awesome though, I've got to admit.

Just because you didn't cry from an anime doesn't mean that the scenes were "forced" or that "it didn't do it's job" It just means that we all have things that can get to us and make us cry if it's a sensitive subject.

Since you didn't cry then that means no one should have cried when watching this. You expect everyone to have the same reaction as you, correct?

In my opinion, if a person did not at least have not shed a tear in any episode or at least felt that you are in this character it means you have not experience some things in life.

Totally agree with you mate. Although that depends also on someone's sensitivity to be triggered easily by situations too.

As for me, I'm proud to say I cried a lot here, especially when the OST Last Train Home kicks in.

I might get some flack for this, but to not able to move on because of some crush when you were in middle-school is so stupid, and the fact that Jintan can't move on because of that BUT CAN for his mother's death is lame as ass.

Can't overlook these details. I didn't cry, or hardly felt anything over that extremely bullshit of a character that is Menma.

I didn't cry as in tears rolling down my face/weeping, but I got as physically close to crying as I can: tears welling up in eyes, sniffling, chest tightening, etc.

I can agree with those that say it was "forced", but what do you expect out of 11 episodes? I wish it was longer so that the story and characters could have more fully developed.

This story really got me though because I could relate to Jinta, when I was 10 my dad died in an accident which I always felt like I could have made not happen and my younger brother died a couple years ago of brain cancer. These stories that involve spirits and their wish always get me for some reason(The Fuko story arc in Clannad being a great example).

Not to give you flack, but I'd say the difference between the two cases would be

A. His mother's death was something that he knew was coming over a long period, so while you can't just "get over it", there is some degree of acceptance. In Menma's case, it was completely unexpected and thus came as a severe shock.

B. Probably the bigger issue is the amount of guilt associated with her death for him. He blamed himself at least partially for her death as it occurred after she ran after him following the incident in the clubhouse, not to mention the guilt and regret over his final words to her and the fact he never had the chance to apologize or share his true feelings with her.

I will certainly give you the point that it was excessive that he became a recluse as a result of the two events. (Side note: pretty sure they were younger than middle school when she died).

All that crying in the last episode actually gave me the opposite effect.

It got to the point where it just became unnecessarily narmy and annoying.

I didn't. I just felt weird because everyone was crying buckets at the end and here I was just watching with a pained expression on my face. I felt bad for the characters but I feel that they were over-dramatizing it a bit.

To me the only remotely sad scene was the end of the first episode. The rest of the scenes were so forced that it was nearly impossible for me to feel any emotion from them.

Quite honestly I think we just have a lot of overly sensitive people watching this show.

I just teared up a bit at one of the moments when Menma was trying to say something but she couldn't. Maybe because I know that feeling when you cant say whuut you wanna say. it's a painful story because after so many years, they still haven't moved on the something from the past, BUT still didn't made me cry as much as I did in Clannad and Angel Beats.

I didn't cry. Well, the only anime I've seen that's made me cry is Angel Beats!
I was sad, but I think the characters were crying enough. Plus, I didn't really like Menma's character that much, the other characters are what made me keep watching. That might have contributed to my not-caring-and-being-happy that she was moving on.

I'll be honest, my eyes did get watery.
I guess it's because I can relate to this anime really well

I had...mixed feelings about the ending.

Anime is all about over-dramatizing situations and emotions, though, and I thought AnoHana was fantastic despite that. While the last episode absolutely overdid it, the entire anime in general was so well done.

I don't see how the friends were over-dramatizing at the end. Well maybe most people can't relate to them that much but I can imagine the pain if you're somehow guilty of the death of someone very dear to you. All of them were good friends but in the end they, like most people, have selfish reasons and couldn't forgive themselves. Unlike most people though, they finally had the chance for a reprieve, to finally apologize and let go of the guilt that has haunt them for 10 years. I'm sure most people would cry as much as Super Peace Busters if they were ever put in the same situation.

Poppo is the one that suffers the most. It mustn't have been easy, watching someone close to you die knowing that you could've prevented it. I don't blame him for being so emotional with Menma, I already knew something was terribly wrong with him when he first desperately asked Menma to say whatever wish she wants.

I just finished this, and I didn't cry. It was undeniably sad, but I just don't cry over anime. No anime has made me cry yet. I've survived Clannad+AS, Angel Beats, and this lol.

Nevertheless, it has become one of my favourite anime.

Me, I still can't find the sad bit.
Yoshii Kiria took over as leader of Fairytale and rebuilt it and became one of Tsukunes formidable enemies but let's save that story for another time

Hehe, let me introduce him to you again, kid. This is Shuzen Issa (who is MIA during the final battle), who will become your 'trainer' starting today. You still have much to go if you want to become the headmaster.

Like the two souls have started to become one.

Nah I didn't but then again I'm emotionally numb. I was a little emotional because it was coming to the end of the journey for the super peace busters, and also the end of my 11 episode journey with them. I'd grown quite fond of the group but the ending itself wasn't that great. The bit with Menma and Jintan's mum was nice but it felt like a very long drawn out goodbye. Not really sure why it had to go much further than Jintan's mum's wish and Menma witnessing the group getting back together, being friendly and telling her they loved her. The hide and seek bit was a bum note to end on i thought.
