Season 3 was the season where he grew most, but in season 4 Isayama didn't give his character the contrast and the development. The only good thing was he acted like a leader at the end and his convo with Eren.

Season 2 really focuses on other side characters (Connie, Sasha, Ymir, "Christa", Reiner, Bertholt) and then eventually Eren in the second half, Armin definitely takes a back seat. But outside of that, I think Armin was probably my favorite character of each season, or at least consistently top 3.

I voted season 3 because it has his best episode and many of his best moments, but thinking about it further, I really do love his guilt-ridden, forced into leadership version of his character we get in the final season, it was easily a highlight.

I think the only season in which Armin stood out was the first one, there were several occasions in which his intelligence and strategy were needed to solve a situation, as when in the first episodes he devised a perfect plan that allowed the Survey Corps to rebuild the gas reserve.
After the first season he didn't have any very important contribution (except in season 3 part 2, which I think is his best season, along with the first one), which is a pity because he was a worthy successor of Erwin, but all he did was cry and cry and cry for the rest of the anime.
Even in the finale, when he became a commander, everyone had to rescue him.
If Armin had not given in to the pressure to be saved instead of Erwin, I think his character would have become one of the best as he would have exploited his full potential.

Voted S3 because Armin made me laugh for attempting to disguise as Historia. XD

Some Muv-Luv and Attack On Titan comparisons:

In Muv-Luv, Méiya disguises as Yuuhi because they are twins and Meiya works really well as a decoy and she speaks very well until a guy (either on drugs or CIA) starts shooting.

In Attack On Titan, Armin disguises as Historia and is found out quite easily. A kidnapper tries to grope Armin and comments that his chest is tough. XD

For this scene, I like AoT more than MLA. XD
