try "Appare-Ranman!" it's still airing, but so far I've been enjoying it.

its basically like steel ball run (JoJo manga) but with cars.
MC is going to take part in a continental race and is building a car for it.

that's quite specific. There are many with competition and many with building something but anime only focused around intersection of both theme is extremely rare. May be you can explain more on what kind of feeling you are looking for ?
