Many people complain about the relationship depicted in Gravitation as being abusive. However, I think, while somewhat dysfunctional, Shuichi's relationship with Yuki is, overall a healthy and loving relationship. Although Yuki can be very rude and Shuichi can be somewhat clingy, with help from each other, the two learn to overcome their problems and improve their behavior and their relationship.
While their relationship was by no means perfect, I believe it was, overall, portrayed very well. What do you think?

I wouldn't say it was abusive.

Although to me their relationship didn't seem well-developed. Shuichi's feelings were clearly very strong towards Yuki, but Yuki seemed to be nonchalant about their relationship. You don't just run away and disappear from someone you're in a relationship without telling them a thing. He was obviously working through some tough things, but to me...disappearing like that is being a bad partner.

I think this show could've benefitted with more episodes to expand upon their relationship since it seems like they were at a good point at the last episode. I'd like to see Yuki be more reciprocal of Shuichi's feelings, and realize more how some of things he does hurts Shuichi.

I agree that their relationship was not as developed as it could have been. I was very dissatisfied with the end of the series as well. I even wonder if the series was ended prematurely. The manga, however, goes more in depth into their relationship and the ending is much more satisfying.
However, most male/male relationships depicted in anime at the time Gravitation was out were only seen in pornographic yaoi and often abusive or even pedophilic, so Gravitation, being a consensual realationship between two young adults, was a pretty big deal for its time. While it was not perfect, it was a huge step forward for LGBTQ representation in anime.

I'm quite a bit late to be adding on to this discussion, but Gravitation still happens to be one of my favourite anime (If you can't tell haha) and I wanted to share;
Personally, as much as I like Shuuichi/Yuki as a pairing I see them more as star-crossed lovers. I just can't help it but think that they were just never meant to be. Destiny is somewhat of a slight motif in in the manga and anime, specifically whenever anyone is referencing Shuuichi and Yuki's relationship but again, like everyone describes, they honestly do seem as though they hurt each other. Yuki clearly cares so much for Shuuichi's sake and I don't think I even need to explain Shuuichi's borderline obsession with the guy, but they still ultimately burn each other out.
But after hearing your points, it really does seem more like a lack of development.
Then again, most points, characters, and motives lack much depth '^^

- Completely agree on that last bit though! Gravitation was before it's time when it was first realised. Also happened to inspire many bl/shounen-ai titles.
