So, what do you guys think? Will this truly be the last animated lifeform we'll ever see of SZS?
Seeing as how SHAFT has been struggling lately with their tight schedule, money issues and lack of staff, I don't hold any hope for this. Unless they postpone any plans for this 'til next year.. (And I don't see any reason for another studio to pick this up..)

Or do you guys think the show has simply become too stale and that it's time to let it rest?

Sure, the manga already consists of a baffling amount of 20 volumes, but how long will that be able to continue? I believe one season already covers more than 1 volume.. so.

Let me know what you think..
And if someone could tell me how much of the manga has been covered so far in the anime, that'd be much appreciated. ;)

*stalks*

They already said once (after the first OVA) that there won't be more SZS in the anime format. And look what happened after that...

Also, about how much manga has been covered and stuff, I think they also said there were some anime-only episodes (don't remember in which season).

And Shaft doesn't really have money issues, I'd say they're one of the most profitable (as much as an anime studio could be "profitable", lol) studios out there. But tight schedule and lack of staff, yeah, that's true.

So I think they'll continue with SZS. It's their main cash cow, after all. Maybe there will be more OVAs than TV series, but there definitely will be more. :)

I definitely don't think they'll quit now. I think they said in one of the wall of texts "How many do we need to sell to get to a 4th season, I wonder"...or that might have been for 3rd. Anyways, I think there will be a break, but I do not think at all that they won't make more eps. ^^

This entire OVA is practically screaming "We're all really sorry it has to end this way". I know Shaft always says something to that effect at the end of every season of SZS, but they never went this far with it.

Which sucks, because Maria telling Koji Kumeta himself to shut up is a pretty depressing ending, in my opinion.

Well the part about reviving things that should have ended spoke for itself.

There will most likely be another season, considering that SZS is one of SHAFT's biggest shows (The other being Bakemonogatari). As far as money goes, SHAFT is perfectly fine. However, schedule and staffing are clear issues as seen in Bakemonogatari, Vampire Bund, and the newest season of Hidamari Sketch. Hopefully things will clear up by the end of the year. I'm expecting a new season in the Fall or Winter quarters, Spring if it takes that long.

Meh. Even if they had money issues, another probable SZS series would surely save their asses.

I think this is the last adaptation. Koji Kumeta has moved on from the SZS story, and the loss of Miyu Matsuki (Harumi) may make a reunion impossible or uncomfortable.
