Just finished watching Area 88, and maybe i'm coming out a bit bias since i was the one that suggested it but i actually liked the anime a lot more than i expected. It is very similar to Top Gun ^^

What i really liked about this anime is how well it portrayed the whole dehumanization of the soldiers fighting in wars. Shin is a character we sympathise with and want to see reclaim his freedom, but at the same time he starts to lose his humanity in order to accomplish that goal.
I also applaud the authors for being able to portray both sides of the civil war as neither good nor evil.

However as much as i liked the MC all the other characters did not really had any impact on me and the whole romance between Tsugumo and Shin felt too forceful. Plus the ending is incomplete.
So overall i would give it a 7/10. Enjoyable show, but storywise it could had been better executed imo.

Wow...this anime is...heartbreaking. I do see what it was going for though. Gungrave had a similar theme, though it was not as focused as Area 88.

I did enjoy the anime as a whole, and the experience is breathtaking, but I will agree that the ending was...how to say this...not disappointing, but not satisfying. It leaves the viewer to guess what happens in the end, although given the situation, it's pretty obvious what would have happened.

Despite its age, it's an anime I can appreciate, and I do wish that more modern anime can cover a similar premise to Area 88.

I was in a rush!

Long? Yes, but there aren't any Featured Anime or Manga currently ongoing, so it's Leaf to pass the time...
