Using anime shorts as the medium for a drama is difficult, especially if said drama is only one episode (10 min or less) long, imo. They'd have to present it in such a way that the audience is quickly able to form an attachment to the characters, and thus feel sufficient sympathy. In the first two episodes of Tabi Machi Late Show, I was unable to form enough of an attachment to the characters. Being in the same situation as the characters in a certain ep. (or knowing someone close who is) may actually let the attachment form instantly.

Major spoilers ahead
In the first ep., I felt that the pacing was too slow, and so, the sudden dramatic ending didn't really affect me much. In the second ep., I didn't even know what the heck was happening; they had an argument and both regretted it to their adult lives (I'll check out some boards to see what others think of this ep., but I won't change what I wrote here).

The third and fourth episodes left better impressions in me. In the third one, most people will undoubtedly feel a strong connection to the characters; they're children (everyone was a child once in their life, right?), and what's more, one of them felt the pain of losing someone precious. That realization at the end that the girl was the actual one who died was a kick to the gut to me; it was so damn sudden.

Before I'll start with the last one, let me tell you that I have been blessed with having 3 teachers that truly cared about their students. No matter how much I made them angry, or how much I disappointed them, they never gave up on me. I legit cried at the end of this ep. It made me feel the pain of what it's like to be in my teachers' places, to see someone you raised with such passion just leave you and move on like that. I absolutely understand the teacher's pain at not getting the opportunity to grow with their students. That fantastic ending, knowing that the teacher won't end up alone... Yup manly tears fell that night.

Each episode left me with varying impressions, so I'll rate them one by one.
First: 5/10
Second: 3/10
Third: 8/10
Fourth: 9/10

Edit: @Tarotist I read pretty quickly so I tend to forget some stuff or read right over them. Thanks and sorry.

Apparently if I'm bored, I resort to social interaction for entertainment... I'm not sure what to feel about that.

Also, I'm starting to hate my username so call me whatever. Literally.

@Xen. This is a discussion thread for the posted anime, so the entire thread is basically a spoiler...

The first episode I found to be pretty generic. Basically passing the baton from master to student. It wasn't bad, but it isn't something that I haven't seen before...

I really liked the second episode. The hidden gestures in the anime give it a little more meaning, like how the loner girl would stop and look at the friendly girl whenever she saw her. What really defined this episode was when the loner girl said that "I do not want to be friends with someone like you. Ok fine, I'll be friends with you until you drop that act." She basically did not want to be friends with someone who was "fake" or "plastic". It kind of shows that the friendly girl represents what is ideal and the loner girl represents what is real. Afterwards when they graduated, the friendly girl's friends began to move away, and the smiles began to fade. As I've learned from persona "Having one close friend is better than ten fake ones." The friendly girl came face to face with reality, and she was thinking at the end that maybe if I didn't act like that, I would have been friends with her. The loner girl was thinking the opposite though where she was thinking to herself "Maybe I would have had a friend if I didn't expose her." Misunderstandings can go a long way. We say to live our lives without regret, but words are the one thing that we can never take back.

The third episode was quite the shocker. At first it seemed pretty generic, until the last moments caught on. While I was feeling it a bit, it isn't something that I haven't seen before. It was done pretty well though.

The fourth episode is definitely the best in the series. It is told in the perspective of the teacher and they tell you how it feels through all the years they have been through. Much respect to devoted teachers.

So overall

4>2>3>1. Episode 4 is the best for the message it delivers, Episode 2 following it because it is a mistake that is very commonly made that everyone can relate to (I personally liked it because of how much you can interpret from it). Episode 3 was good, but only for the shock factor. Episode 1 is of course the most generic of the bunch.

Not bad, not bad at all...

These sure were four nice little bittersweet stories but not much more. It could have been a bit more touching in my opinion. Anyways it was a nice session of anime away from what we usually get to see. I liked it, especially the third story.

I was more interested in the art though which i thought was very fitting and lovely. CoMix Waves is best known for animating Makoto Shinkai´s stuff like Garden of Words or 5 Wallpapers per Second and those works sure look unbelievable and are among the tastiest eyecandy you will find. They prove here that they can handle completely different, more minimalistic art as well, so i salute you, CoMix Waves ^^

Yay my suggestion!!!

"nice little bittersweet stories but not much more" That resumes well, ma friend.

I like the 3 and 4th stories more than the first two. Also liked the art~
