First ever cosplay

Hi! So I'm relatively new to the whole anime scene but I'm already super into it. I love it! I plan on going to Megacon with my boyfriend this year (our third) but this year I want to cosplay.
Since this would be my first time cosplaying I'm looking for something easy and that doesnt require a wig because my hair is just honestly too long to comfortably fit into a wig. (I have long black hair)
I need suggestions on what would be a good cosplay for beginners. I'm thinking Rin Tohsaka from Fate/Stay Night with my boyfriend as Shirou or Archer.
Any suggestions?
Also, what was your first cosplay experience like? I'd love to hear first cosplaying stories.

Tohsaka Rin sounds like a good idea. It could be easy, and it's nice that the red top with the symbol on it will let people know who you are even if the cosplay doesn't end up great. Kagome from Inuyasha is another possibility since you have long black hair. I am also cosplaying for the first time this summer. I will be a patrat.
