~ Ousama Game ~

Synopsis

"A high school class, containing 32 students, all receive a strange text message on their cell phones one night. It welcomes them to the "Ousama Game," in which they are given specific tasks to carry out in a 24 hour period.

No one takes it very seriously at first, as the tasks are trivial things like having one student kiss another. Soon, the tasks escalate beyond what the kids are willing to do, and they learn that the cost of failure is death. Will they be able to find a way out of the Ousama Game before more people die, and the living lose their integrity and humanity through their participation in the increasingly horrible daily tasks?

This manga is an adaptation of the first novel from the Ousama Game novel series, written by the same author.
"

So I guess I'll go first ~
(I wonder how many read it)

Well I feel like the original idea of forcing classmates into doing things without giving them a choice was fine... and it was somewhat interesting at the beginning (aside from the part where the guy has to have sex with his best friends gf).. but at some point people just started dying for no reason... it felt like "We need to get rid of x number of characters" and we were just.. "meh , ok .. I don't really know who those guys were anw" =p
In the beginning I thought I could relate the manga to the Battle Royal one.. but it was pretty weaker .. almost no characters were developed , felt like most of the class members were pretty dumb (not intelligent) ...

One of the only characters that could save the manga was Ria (the super hacker girl) and she was a cool/fine character.. still her explanation in the end made little sense.. and the 'Ousama' program won anyway =p

Yeah 6/10 ... because it was fine.. I read the whole thing in one go.. good pacing, some good characters... but in the end I was a bit disappointed ...

I read the explanation of the ending online and apparently the king was a virus...

Pretty disappointing ending, the premises was good and the beginning of the story was definitely worth the read. But clearly the author didn't plan the story well because everything started to fall apart.

Here's the explanation I found elsewhere:

"Years ago, Chiemis mother was a researcher. (Chiemis mother left her when she was 1 years old)
Her mother went off to research about the power of 'hints', which is to use words to activate a persons physical changes.
Her research was to initially to use this power to control people in order to gain world peace. how ever the power went way ward.
This went lose in the village that Chiemis mother was doing her research in, and everyone died. Hence the project was shut down.
How ever the so called virus continued to spread. It found it's way to Chiemis class and decided to use her class as the final test subjects."

Also apparently, there's a live action of this manga, that has a different ending to the manga ending.

I agree, the idea was good, but around half of the manga, it really started falling apart.

Yeah, that's how it seemed to me as well.
Also, did they have any particular reason that towards the end, everyone died by dismemberment/decapitation? It didn't make the story more scary, only more gross. :\

Also, what I don't get is that if the whole thing worked by the power of suggestion, how come that Ria died if she knew about it? (Aside from for the sake of killing everyone but Nobuaki off...)

Agreed with you guys. Good concept, ok execution until the second half. And why must they always explain everything at the very last chapter? It kinda ruins the tension and climactic experience.

I guess it goes along the lines of "If you believe you will die, you will die." Ria may have been probably the best character, but the writer just screwed her up at the end.

"With this antivirus, I can end the Ousama game virus once and for all!"

That antivirus didn't do shit....

Another thing that got on my nerves whil reading this manga is the over-exaggerating expressions that the characters have. Too many "action lines" drawn on the page and the characters look like they're always screaming. I know it's trying to be a horror, but having a horrified look on your face 24/7 is not the right way to do it...

So characters! Uhh...they're all pretty much the same anyway. Screaming and arguing, and going mad etc...And it just so happens that no one in the class was the Ojousama, but it was in fact a virus...

WHY....

The story could have been so much better if one of the members of the class was the Ojousama...but it had to be a virus...LAME!

Hmm...a question for all of you! If the Ojousama was not a virus, who do you think would have been the Ojousama if the Ojousama was a member of the class?

Hard to say really. They gave us a lot of "Hints" like "You can only sense me if your full with hatred" or something, but then the author seem to have abandoned them and gave the ending it is right now.

I believe in the live action, the culprit is
