Do you look past flaws in a series because of it's age?

I don't give any anime a free-pass ticket. The story is something that doesn't matter, whatever the air period was. Animation quality on the other hand, that's something I don't care about, obv it is gonna be worse than anime nowadays. I look at the quality, but in comparison with the time it was aired in, that's fair.

It's dependent on what the 'flaw' is. I'm not going to mark something down for poor animation if it's from the 80s.
But poor writing is poor writing, regardless of how old or new an anime is.
It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether!

I only watch the "better" shows from older periods, but I will judge less harshly on the artwork.

I tend to stay away from those old anime, mostly because of the animation and cheesy VA.

If we're talking about technical limitations, absolutely. On the other hand, storytelling is timeless and shouldn't be scrutinized based on the age or era. There are certainly going to be different standards of narrative and one should keep an open mind, but if there's a glaring shortcoming I'm not giving free passes.

Productional flaws like animation, sound effects or maybe character designs that are seen as ugly nowadays can be certainly excused. However, flaws concerning the character behaviour, the story or the general logic of an anime or its world are always bad, no matter how old the anime is.

It depends on the flaw I guess. In this particular case I can forgive technology limitations, but that's pretty much it.

It it's about the animation, I don't really mind, But bad plot is a bad plot.

I found that if the art is unique enough, then low-quality animation stops being a huge problem.
