At what point in the series can I expect this to pick up? I *think* I'm on episode 6 or 7 and I'm really struggling to push on.
I keep hearing that it gets better but at what point, am I going to have to chunk down another 20 episodes before the plot really kicks off? Or... like... what lol

I liked it from episode one and if you're not enjoying it by episode ten, drop it tbh.

It's not that I'm not enjoying it, I do enjoy it, I'm just wondering when the real story starts to kick off.

I'm wondering the same thing. I mean, I'm enjoying it, but I enjoy pretty much everything from this genre and 5 episodes in it doesn't seem like much has happened.

The first 12 or so episodes are pretty mediocre, and cheesy as hell even for a children's anime, with its simplistic dialogue and over-the-top drama. But the show got much better once Mion finally joined the group in episode 14. The cheap animation with pretty much every character outside of the main cast looking literally like blank cardboard cutouts is gone, and the dialogue and drama improved a lot and became much more compelling. As of episode 33, the show is still slightly cheesy at times, but nowhere near as bad as during the first 12 episodes.
