Really been trying to track down the first and second season for a good price but since they're out of print I've had no luck.. Saw the other day Rightstuf is doing preorders for what looks like a remastered north american release of the show.

Anyone know if this is an official release and if we can expect to see Kai licensed in North America in the near future?

If you go to the anime listing for Higurashi, you will see this under the 7/2 recent news:
