Is Full Metal Panic Good?

I don't know much about it.

I do know it was created by the same person as Amagi Brilliant Park and I loved that anime.

I also know it's a mecha and I'm not a big fan of mecha.

How much of a role does Mecha play in this series? And is it worth my time to watch it?

FMP is the anime that got me into anime. It's definitely good, though you might not like the third season (The Second Raid) very much. The first season is a mix of mecha and high school comedy/romance, the second season (Fumoffu) focuses entirely on the comedy aspect, and TSR is all about the action and a bit of drama. I have heard that you can watch fumoffu without having seen the first season and still enjoy it, so that's an option. The biggest problem with FMP is that the anime is unfinished. There's tons more source material that will probably never be animated. I still fully recommend this anime.
