My friend is looking for an anime where the MC(s) are taken away from their normal lives and are forced to go on some adventure or fight for their normal lives back.
Pls dont mention the obvious ones like SOA,Btooom,etc.

i would say...
mirai nikki- which is on your PTW list

Akame ga kill- also on you PTW list

Corpse Party: tortured souls- they get pulled into another world and have to fight to survive

fate/zero (and fate/stay night)- on your PTW list.

Log Horizon- alot of people say this is similar to SAO but alot better i see you
dropped SAO but you may like this as many who didnt like SAO do.

Mahou Sensou- MC is essentially forced to participate in a fight for the fate of the world.... i guess...

oda nobuna no yabou- MC seems to have traveled back in time into some kind of parrallel universe i guess???? thus with seemingly (obviously) no way back he is forced to fight for his very life. <-- personally one of my favorites.

Shakugan no shana - on your PTW list

Zero no tsukaima- MC pulled into another world and forced to fight. (there are 4 seasons ive only seen 2 so far but i liked them both)

thats pretty much all i got, hope it is kind of helpful in any way..
