lanblade, that how the entries are. I don't see anything regarding the need of spelling out the numbers in the Naming Conventions for Entries Guidelines. IIRC you came up with that approach at some point and even discussed it in this thread? You can bring them up if you know were the related conversations are?

I asked about it as some entries were already spelled out before all this (ex. Onna Kyoushi Nijuusan-sai) and didn't know which one was right and got the o-k that spelling it out was the better option. It's not like I have the ability to change the anime titles myself, someone gave the green-light. And in turn why all my submitted DB anime had spelled out titles (really, just those minna OVA snoozefest ones, I don't remember any others that used numbers so much).

What about in cases where there's furigana? Is the furigana for numbers ignored in the title but accepted for the kanji parts if the whole title has furigana?

The earliest number to name change I can remember is the Tezuka 24 hour TV Specials because it was from the longest forum post I had ever made
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=30866&show=6020#msg29833563
Since I don't talk about the reasoning in that post, that means it was already established spelled out>numerals. But I don't remember when/what the first instance was. I'm trying custom google searching but it keeps giving me regular forum posts where I happen to say "number" or "name" or that character identification thread.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/18573/Noobow_(TV)
No point in having the (TV), none of the other entries have just "Noobow" as the title and they all have different Japanese names.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/546/Wind:_A_Breath_of_Heart_(TV)
The Japanese title has (2004) should this be followed?
Same here: http://myanimelist.net/anime/715/Yume_de_Aetara
Which would remove (TV) from here: http://myanimelist.net/anime/718/Yume_de_Aetara_(TV)
Same here: http://myanimelist.net/anime/18205/World_Fool_News_(TV)

I actually somewhat doubt the dates on the titles above (I searched for a bit, found nothing) so maybe they should be removed from the Japanese titles if they aren't official and just whoever was making the entry added them at the time, hell, the Yume de Aetara OVAs have 1999 in the Japanese title and were released in 1998...

Also, VNDB doesn't have a Japanese title for Wind: A Breath of Heart but ANN does.

AniDB says the official title of World Fool News has the (2014) but I don't see that mentioned anywhere else.

For the Gintama sequels, the episode count relative to the start of the series should be placed into synonyms.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/9969/Gintama
(Gintama episode 202-252)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/15417/Gintama:_Enchousen
(Gintama episode 253-265)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/28977/Gintama
(Gintama episode 266+)

This should help people not familiar with the series know what's going on with them, as most other places, including where you can watch it use a continuous numbering scheme unlike how it is on here. Eg latest Gintama o episode 14 is known as episode 279

In that case it should still follow MAL's guidelines.

The dates will stay, unless you (or someone else) have other dates to submit.

>AniDB says, Also, VNDB doesn't
Irrelevant. They have their own guidelines.

vvvortic, yes and no. Maybe a better place would be a More Info section?

I was merely pointing out that the dates might not be official, as in, someone here added them by themselves, or in that AniDB case copyed from there, some anime actually have dates in their titles, just thinking these ones might not.
And aren't the guidelines just for the same titles? If that one was indeed released with (2004) in the title I don't see why it'd required (TV).

I don't see a big deal with either. No harm in whatever happens

for example I recently watched K-on and wondered why there was a 14th episode and 27th episode, after going through the entries it was well cleared up when it was simply put on synonyms on here.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/6862/K-On!:_Live_House!

that's the example of it which I can think of off of the top of my head where something is considered as an extra episode(s) to a series in most places but is required to have a different entry on here, surely there are many more

Best clarity will be on synonyms as it still doesn't affect entry but will be seen by everyone who looks. Less people will look into more info but it's better than nothing if you believe that to be the best option

Please at least add "Tenchi Muyou! Bangaihen: Uchuu Keiji Mihoshi Ginga Daibouken" to the synonyms for Tenchi.

If I understand Paulo27 right, he say that if "(2004)" is a part of the official Jap. title, it shouldn't be replaced with "(TV)".

That's exactly what I was saying. I wasn't really saying the dates were wrong (well, only in the case of the Yume de Aetara OVAs in which the Japanese title doesn't match the release date), if it's not part of the official Japanese title the date shouldn't be in the Japanese title, like the World Fool News TV, AniDB has the (2014) in the Japanese title there and I bet whoever added that entry here copied the title straight from there and with the difference in guidelines AniDB might just require the (2014) (I don't their guidelines so just assuming) even if it's not official, whereas MAL wants the official titles, which likely DON'T have the dates in them, I searched for World Fool News and couldn't find a single time where it had the date in the name aside from AniDB.

Same for the Yume de Aetara OVAs, I searched and I bet that (1999) doesn't belong in the Japanese title and was just added at the time by whoever added the entry to the DB just to distinguish it from the other entry with the same Japanese title.

I hope I'm being clear enough here, basically, remove the dates from the Japanese titles for the entries I mentioned.

And as far as I understand if a date is in the Japanese title then it should also be in the main title and that'd overwrite the (TV) (I know MAL also adds dates to main titles on its own when it's required but if the official Japanese title has a date I think it should be followed too).

I guess I could explain why I requested the changes at the bottom, basically, I think if an entry has the "VS" in the Japanese title then it should get a "vs." in the main one but if it has it spelled in Japanese (対 or whatever) as opossed to the "VS" then it should be changed to "tai".
It's fine either way though.

That's the official Eng. title, not romanization. I've seen a lot of similar manga entries, and in all cases they put this into Eng. title field and set the actual romanization as the main title. In this case it should be something like "Lady x Bato!"

It does bring up another facet of the furigana similar to the numbers issue. For example, the Ninja Hattori one you posted, it has the たい furigana on top of the VS. Which was why I used "Tai" in the main title when I submitted that anime to the DB.

Dangerous Jiisan is another one of my entries but I couldn't find furigana for it so I left it exactly show it was spelled in the Jap title with the caps.

I guess to add on, is furigana ignored for abbreviations but still accepted for the rest of the kanji in the title?
