- Budget (but still depends on the situation). JC staff is doing a lot of titles this year.
- they have to know if it will sell well too. they wouldn't go for a lot of ep if nobody likes it.
- the manga is not yet finished and the manga is too short to be adapted as a long running anime either.
- has a lot of explicit content, mainly ecchi and violence. quite illogical to reason out i guess, but think about it. there are only a few ecchi anime have aired longer than expected. most ecchi shows are either split cours, have a break between seasons, or just stay in one season. i mean, you wouldn't show revealing body parts for more than 100 episodes, right?

It was a rhetoric question ^^
yep, I understand you, I know all that but nevertheless I'm always perplexed in front of so much short animes.
I know the inconveniences of continuous animes, there is the problem of fillers episodes too (fans are exasperated by that)
Yes we can rewatch the episodes after the end of the season but at a moment there will be always this feeling of lack and many will turn then on the manga to know the continuation (it's an advantage for the mangaka and his sales ^^")
but short animes has some disadvantages... The intrigue go too quickly or then the situation take place too fast, somes adaptations have only right to a single season of 12 episodes and then nothing more.
For example:
Sekirei's two seasons or "Hentai ōji to warawanai neko." takes place too fast and we don't know if the continuation will arrive some day (yep, it's dead).
same thing for Ben-To or Highschool of the dead but it's an exception because the Sato brothers make breaks for their manga or work on others mangas/projects
Sora No Otoshimono unwind too quickly, somes chapters were not adapted, the studio has make a little mess and decide that to adapted the end of the manga they have to make two movies to buckle the buckle.
Personally I find that Sword Art Online season 1, at some moments the story goes too fast ^^"
for Sket Dance, here I was okay, the adaptation was good in spite of the fillers.
But all that is just my personnal opinion, not the general truth : )
But I admit sometimes short animes is okay, like you said because of the original material or the quality of it. And thanks to them, we have many more varied adaptations more quickly. |
