why.... why does SAO always does this when its about villains and antagonist?

Why is it that the only reason for SAO to have villains and antagonist is so that we the audience can have someone that we can hate, just to hate on them.

Now they are doing it to Asuna's mom. She has to be presented as a jerk, someone mean, with bad motives just so we the audience can hate when she appears on screen or when she is mentioned.

Its not fun at all when you have worthless villains/antagonist.

A good villain/antagonist/rival is just as important as a good MC

Then I ask you: Is Asuna's mum actually hateable if you deeply think about what she said?

While I read through the MR story I never once hated her, yes I disliked her a bit but in course of her discussion with Asuna it became clear that all she wants is the best for her child. Her only flaw is that she is overly ambitious and that certainly isn't a hateable trait of a character, that makes her just more human.

She herself even said to Asuna that she can choose to marry sb else as long as that he has the reputation to stand up to hers. She doesn't want her to marry into money so that she herself can live in luxery but so that Asuna later can do whatever she wants without being bound by a lack of money (as she stated herself)

That she doesn't think about Kirito or Asuna's classmates like that is neither far fetched nor evil - she just doesn't know any better and as she rightfully claimed this school is primarily to keep all SAO survivors under close watch.

Seriously? I can't get to hate Kyouji, probably cause we are kinda similar, but i didn't get so crazy, probably cause Japan is way more strict with those things.

But even if I did, I can't get him in the same place as Sugou, i mean, he's like a male version of Asuna, both with those huge expectations, not listening to their child, ofc Asuna's mother is a bitch sometimes, but Kyouji's parents were total fuckers.

Not saying what he did was okay, but I just couldn't get to hate him that much if at all... His brother was the sick bastard.

He introduced Asada to GGO because straight from the beginning he wanted to make her his own so he had a lustful malicious intent from the start. His plan was for Asada to rely on him through GGO and in real life, thus making her fall in love with him. However, through the stress of Sinon surpassing him, the introduction of Kirito, Asada's growing independence rather than dependence, plus expectations in real life drove him to the deep end and he succumbed to his carnal desires.

This event is narrated two times.

I can definitely see that scene in season 3 when Sinon talks to Kirito about the fourth Bullet of Bullets event.

Episode 18 Comparison

Omitted
•The pun about the nickname absolute sword (絶剣, Zekken) sounding like a sportsman's number (ゼッケン, Zekken).

Added
•A lot of the dialogue in the log house, including the reference to Kazuto working on a device for Yui to be able to experience the real world.
•The scene in the Dicey Cafe.
•Leafa drawing on Kirito's face.

Differences
•Andrew mentioned that he had met her wife via an online game when she was still in America. However, in the 2005 web version interview, it was said that they had met each other because both of them were foreigners and they lived close to each other.
•The New Aincrad's 21st Floor boss looks different from its counterpart in the manga adaption.

Errors
•The MMO Tomorrow report about New Aincrad was labeled with a Zaskar icon, despite the game being managed by Ymir.
•MMO Tomorrow's @ tag was written as "@MMO_today" instead of "@MMO_tomorrow."
•The 22nd Floor was incorrectly called the 21st Floor on the Forest House purchase window.
•The word "Paid" was misspelled as "Paied."
•The time for the raid of the Floor Boss of the 21st floor of New Aincrad was erroneously written as 2024-12-24 instead of 2025-12-24.
•For every floor in Aincrad, there should have a door to push open before the new floor could be reached.

Episode 19 Comparison

Omitted
•Asuna and Kirito's conversation about recreating the taste of the Ragout Rabbit stew.
•Asuna and Kirito's conversation about purchasing a house on Selmburg and later about Agil's Item Shop.
•Kirito predicting that Asuna would be going away with Yuuki.

Added
•N/A

Differences
•In the novel, Yuuki asked Asuna if she was busy after their duel before leading her away. Thus Asuna willingly followed Yuuki and also had the time to tell the others that she would contact them later.

Errors
•N/A

Additional Notes for Clarity
•Asuna set her room temperature to weak heating mode but forgot to disable the timer, thus it turned off during her FullDive causing the cold temperature in her 10-tatami room to nearly equal the outside temperature.
•Asuna in the midst of her battle with Yuuki fully realized that Kirito did not go easy against her. She was able to last this long because she noticed that Yuuki was not used to battling against other players and never used any feints. She took advantage of that to catch Yuuki off guard.

Episode 20 Comparison

Omitted
•Asuna and Yuuki flying to the 27th Floor.
•The Sleeping Knights did not mention that they traveled through numerous games to find the most gorgeous one to leave their memory in.
•Asuna's mother's disapproval of Asuna heading outside and her attempt to stop her.
•The journey to the Labyrinth.

Added
•N/A

Differences
•In the novel, Yuuki had forgotten to ask Asuna for her name. Thus, when she tried introducing Asuna to her guild, she had to ask for her name first, causing her guild members to fall to their chairs.
•In the novel, Yuuki did not tell Asuna why she was brought to meet the Sleeping Knights, thus causing another misunderstanding when she realized it.
•In the novel, Yuuki said Kirito found out the guild's secret, whereas in the anime, she said that Kirito found out her secret. In the novel, the guild members then changed the conversation to strategizing for the boss fight.
•In the novel, the scout party's leader was one of the two imp players, instead of the sylph player.

Errors
•A guild icon was displayed above Asuna's HP bar, despite her not being part of a guild.
•The incantation for Asuna's spell was displayed as the incantation for a healing spell, instead of for a Searcher spell.
•The concealment spell was supposed to be cast by the scout party's sylph player, instead of an imp.

It's just that the Medicuboid has a better reaction time than AmuSphere, but its slightly, it's not super fast or whatever, it's just that Yuuki is living that world, she feels no delay or anything.

Would someone be so kind as to direct me to a place I can read the events after MR in English up to the latest volume? Or better yet, to PM me a synopsis on what happened afterwards?

I love this series to bits, but ever since they took things down from BakaTsuki, I've not been able to do anything but read the wiki page, but I would so love to at least know what has happened thus far in the story up to the latest volume (15th was it?). I really would like to at least know whether

Thanks and much appreciation in advance!

Honestly, I wasn't really expecting them to animate Mother's Rosario at all. I figured they'd just glean right over it without a second thought and go straight into Alicization/Underworld.

But honestly, while I found the novel somewhat lackluster at this point of the story, I'm glad they animated it. Asuna's at least getting the screen time, and the fight between her and Yuuki was a great watch.

I knew it won't be made a movie ever since Aincrad was confirmed only half a season. No way A-1 would skip Caliber and Mother's Rosario to put Alicization after Phantom Bullet, even if it fits. Though I don't know why I had faith that A-1 wouldn't do that in the first place.

Medicuboid is more similar to NerveGear than AmuSphere. Indeed, it was developed based on NerveGear, not AmuSphere. AmuSphere aims to add an extra layer of senses onto your existing ones, but Meidcuboid/NerveGear aim to shut down your original senses and replace them with new ones.

Just like how NerveGear confers a slight advantage in reaction time and slightly greater immersion over AmuSphere, so does Medicuboid.

•N/A

Differences
•In the novel, Kirito showed Asuna three fingers to indicate that he would keep off the guild for three minutes, instead of shouting it.
•In the novel, two players from the boss clearing guild tried to sneak up on and assassinate Asuna and Siune, but Asuna noticed them and cast Aqua Bind to stop them. Then, after talking with Siune, she finished them off before charging at the rest of the guild.
•In the novel, Asuna was the one who closed the doors to the boss room, instead of Siune.
•In the novel, Asuna deduced the boss's weakness after thinking about Kirito battling The Gleam Eyes, instead of seeing Talken's spear exposing its weakness. Additionally, since she was casting a spell when she deduced the weakness, Asuna accidentally failed the incantation of her spell.

Errors
•The same incantation was displayed for the three different attack spells at the beginning of the episode.
•Salamander healers were shown to use a single-target healing incantation for healing multiple players.
•The incantation displayed for Asuna's incantation did not match the incantation that Asuna recited.
•Asuna's spell was supposed to generate four ice shards instead of three.

I have a question regarding Yuuki.
Why didn't they try to use the brain scan on her to get her consciousness on the internet/ into the VRMMO, like Kayaba did it ? I know it fries the brain in the process, but that doesn't seem like much of a problem for a terminally ill patient.

If I remember correctly, Medicuboid was designed based on Kayaba's enhanced Nervegear, meaning that they had to get their hands on it and research it. And they should know that he was killed by it, yet he still appeared alive later in the game (in ALO when Kirito was fighting Oberon ... I hope Kirito did report that, because it's fairly important ) ... so they should know about this possibility of brain scan, and I don't see a reason why they wouldn't investigate it further, as it can be used for medical purposes.

QQ, I wanted Yuuki to live, atleast in VRMMO, if nothing else. :(

Because it was Kayaba's private research, they did not have that technology themselves-I believe Rath may have had it and a military organization is hardly going to hand it over for civilian use, even in such a case-and even if they did have it there was only a small chance of success.
Also as far as most people knew, he had failed and died.

That sucks, but thanks for a worthy answer. When I asked elsewhere, people were ass-pulling too much. xD I know it was a 1 to 1000 chance of success, but worth the try eitherway. But yeah, your reasoning for why they didn't know about it seems trustworthy.

Too bad, gotta make Yuuki fanart to preserve her memory. :D

Two main issues: legal problems and the probability of succeeding. I'm sure no regular hospital would scan a young girl's brain and implement her in a virtual reality world as that would bring up ethical issues. If it's that easy, might as well scan the brains of everyone so that anyone can become immortal. And remember that Kayaba Akihiko only had a 1 in 1000 chance of the scan actually succeeding, and he appears only for a brief moment only to disappear in cyberspace.

Brain scanning I believe is not yet known to the public because that would definitely cause a social and ethical movement and the sick and elderly lining up to be healthy once more.

It's possible with a Soul Translator, but that is a high-tech military secret and I'm pretty sure they would not use it on a random girl. There are only 5 in existence, 4 which is on the overseas military base and the last in Roppongi in which Kazuto uses in the background prior to the Alicization arc. We already saw the ethical issues that would bring when Asuna witnesses a scientist talking with his soul-translated self, and the clone mentally breaking down when he realized he was a fake. And if you scan or clone yourself into the virtual reality, are you really you, or just an imitation of the original with the same characteristics?
