I've noticed on many other sites that there are ways to subscribe to shows and be notified for new episodes or seasons. This would be especially useful on a site like this.

It can be implemented as a subscription, where you can be notified on the page with your shows on it.

Since most animes here don't show up as different seasons, there could simply be a feature that notifies you when a related anime is aired (from what I understand, that's basically the equivalent of a season).

This database, from what I've seen, is very big. This can be an extremely useful feature for people that don't speak Japanese and can't keep up with news for most anime shows. The database can make this something not offered on many other sites.

This is something that's already worked. The site when-will.net does this by sending you an email. The reason it would work so well here is because there is such an extensive list of shows here.

It will work well if it's not by sending you an email but as you said sending you a notification, could be interesting !

on the bottom I said when-will.net

It's a pretty popular idea, by the looks of it, there just hasn't been a good way to do it with anime like you can American shows (services such as TVShow Time).

But that's only one site, and you said "other sites", and I thought you meant anime sites. Besides, nothing shows when I try going to that site
AniDB notifies you when an anime related to anything in your list is added to the database

The site has anime shows on it too, it just doesn't have such a comprehensive list of them. Mostly American shows.

Besides, my point was that this site could profit from something like this. What's the point of this site if AniDB does the same thing, and supposedly better?

Well there are limitations:
1. It does not send you e-mails, only jabber, RSS and site PMs
2. You can get notifications on new episodes, but you have to subscribe for every specific anime entry. Besides, it notifies you about new files and not episodes themselves, although you can configure which files you want to be notified on. But again, it has to be done for every entry separately, which may be a chore
The main disadvantage of that site in my eyes is that it's not so user-friendly as MAL, especially in keeping a generic (not attached to concrete files) list

I'd think that the main reason for this site is a central point for some anime fans. This way, they can keep track of the shows they watch. You can talk to people about those shows and discuss plots, recommend shows, and make friends with common interests. The next logical step, at least for me, would be to implement this feature, even if it is through the community (by which I mean that a user can say that an episode aired and provide a date, and then if a couple of people confirm it, it could notify subscribers of the show).
