This has bothered me for some time while I was watching Aria (though I may be over-thinking), in which

Ok, so that was perhaps a too-long rant about the logic behind Aria. But there's a ton of anime dealing with life in space, too.

For us right now, Mars seems like the most accessible planet to live on. In fact, we are even making advancements on actually sending people to the Red Planet. And, according to Wikipedia, we do have technologies such as weather modification.

So sure, domes are possible. How do you think we're going to fare in them? And is it even possible to transform a planet to make it livable (not even necessarily Mars), without all that coverage?

I think most troubles of inhabiting other planets come from temperature and atmosphere, both of which could be solved with some sort of dome. The thing is, its probably too expensive and would take long to build. And, we don't really need it at the moment. I don't think living in a (proper) dome would be any different, although I'd feel strange if going from living my life freely on earth, to be in a closed dome.
