Free is one of the professors at Nico and Ichi's magic academy and unlike the other professors, Free is a witch. He is very fond of and admires his "Big Brother" Nico and attempts to imitate his appearance by using his powers as a witch. Free proves to be a very popular professor among the senior students at the academy for his power and merits as an instructor. He is so popular in fact that the senior students often get themselves into situations where they are given extra classes in order to spend more time with him. Throughout the series, Free distinguishes himself as a reliable and powerful witch due to his extraordinary barrier magic that he uses to protect his friends and students.
It is eventually revealed that Free was once a subordinate of Sade and after her defeat in the past was recruited to the academy by Nico. Upon recruiting Free, Nico told him "You are free starting today", which is why he took the moniker "Free" as his name.
