Akira Takaoka is a trained soldier, and former ally of Tadaomi Karasuma.
He is a rather large man and jokes that his love of food increased his waistline. He is also very muscular from years of intense training. He is introduced as a father-like teacher with a kind face.
His appearance takes a drastic turn when he shows his true nature: that of a brutal drill sergeant who forces his way into the role of the "beloved father". In his second appearance, he had clawed at his face to the point of leaving scars (reflecting the psychological scars inflicted by Nagisa Shiota) as well as dropped all his excess weight.
