So, I am heading home from the store after buying the ingredients for curry. A few minutes from my house, I get a phone call from my house. It is J, my oldest, telling me that B, the second child, broke the window in the dining room & is bleeding. When I get home, the full story unfolds. Let me back up a little here. I told my children to come straight home from school today. Today was the day that I chose to enroll them all in their archery and fencing classes at the local community center. I was also planning on renewing my membership so that they could all use the pool, etc. When I got home, three of my children, the three younger children, were sitting on the porch. The oldest child, the one with the keys to the door, was nowhere to be found. I waited as long as I could, then took the three I had to register for their classes. They got their new membership cards and all was good. B asked to go to the library, and I let him.

Two hours after he was supposed to arrive, my oldest finally shows up. He tries to tell me he was at the school waiting for a friend. The usual discussion of the necessity of letting me know where he is at any given time is once again vocally and passionately expressed on my part. I tell him that he is grounded from the computer and gaming consoles. I go to the store to buy the ingredients for dinner. When B gets home, he sees J playing on the computer and goes to call me. J tries to stop him, a scuffle ensues and B is pushed into the window. It breaks and he falls half out it. Again, we have a vocal and strident discussion about proper behavior.

B is decidedly lucky in that he only has one puncture wound on his upper arm which isn't even bleeding anymore. To my eye it has missed all tendons and major blood vessels. B is freaked a bit, so I decide to try and make use of Nicole's CNA training by having him call his mother. It's not like she is using that CNA training for anything as mundane as work. I would have had her visit, but her car is dead. Anyway, since it is a fairly deep wound (I can see the fat "bubbles" -- sort of like really fine curds of cottage cheese), and I am worried about there being glass still in the arm, I take him to the emergency room.

I will note that at no time did I use the opportunity to show of the word "Defenestration."

B asked, after two hours of waiting, "Isn't this supposed to be an Emergency Room?"

My evening was shot to hell. I missed out curry, company and conversation. Instead I ended up with fast food, grunting street people and drama.

Well, I leave Monday. My bags are mostly packed. I have told my friends when I intend on arriving. I have loaded up my laptop with Anime -- Koi Kaze (the manga was good), Shion no Ou (can someone please continue scanlating this...), Venus Versus Virus (I read the volumes scanlated, & will be picking up the official releases soon), Mahoraba (this manga was very fun), Shigofumi (I hope this is as good or better than Shinigami no Ballad) and Mnemosyne (how can I not watch an anime titled after the mother of all the muses?).

Now don't think that I intend to go to Japan to watch anime I procured in the states, that would be silly. That is for the weekday and plane trip. I am also packing several books: Tyr (vol 3), Rene Guenon: A Teacher for Modern Times, The Age of American Unreason, Shinto: World Religions (updated Version), and Introduction to the Study of the Hindu Doctrines. Again, this is for the trip over & for downtime while I am working.

Working? Why yes, the US Navy, in its wisdom, is sending me to Japan for my two week training. I should have some evenings and the weekends free. This means I will be able to hang out with my friends in Japan (mostly English Teachers). This will be the third trip in four years (last years trip was interrupted by my being sent to Kuwait -- not an adequate substitute).

Just being in Japan makes me happy.

So, I decided to purge my club list. To me the purpose of a club is to show my support/appreciation for a manga, to keep track of developments in the series or related content, and to track projects by the same authors/artists.

I don't really care if other people think Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh is cuter than some other cartoon girl in some other anime. My liking it is enough, I don't need to proselytize. Did I really need to be signed up for four clubs from the MLGN series, all dedicated to a different character who were always competing in the MAL MOE or whatever contests? I decided no. Assume I like the characters in the Manga & Anime I have listed in my lists ith a rating of 8+.

Unless the anime or manga in question is rated as a 10, I won't even consider joining a club dedicated to just that manga. Instead, I am joining clubs dedicated to themes I like (Yuri, Gender-Bender, Vampires, etc), authors/artists I enjoy a lot (Yazawa, Milk, etc) and activities (Japan Lovers, Learning Japanese, etc).

It’s time to ditch the text file.
