Anime Relations: Kanokon
It's finally over.

I had high hopes for this series. I really did. Being a kemonomimi fan, I had thought "Fox girl, wolf girl, and more, woo!" . . . but, no. Instead, we're lumped with Chizuru, who is a fat annoying bitch, and Nozomu, who has zero personality and is a third wheel the entire series with pretty much zero purpose other than to annoy Chizuru. Also you rarely see any of their kemono forms, so it fails on that front.

So yeah. I didn't like it. The art was terrible, the music mediocre, and it had a non-existent story. But it did, however, have more ecchi than most hentai titles I've seen. While not actually becoming pornographic. Really quite a feat. Not one it should be proud of though, I think. What happened to the XEBEC golden days of Stellvia? >.<

Well. The elements:

As I said. The art was bad. The animation spotty. Chizuru was fat, and the other girls all very plain. While I know it is actually the style, having seen scans from the source material, it's not a style that appeals to me at all. Some may think it's 'nice' to see 'realistic' portrayal of women like Chizuru with her thunder thighs, but I think it's pretty disgusting. Especially in the episodes that showed off her huge naked arse, too. Really. Bad. Terrible.

The music was totally mediocre, as already mentioned. Nothing at all that grabbed my attention and the OP and ED were also boring. However, it has two of my favourite seiyuu in it, Mamiko and Ayako, voicing the leads. This is pretty much the only reason I didn't drop it after three episodes. They always do well in their roles, even if their roles are so poorly written like these. But still, as a fan of theirs, it pained me to watch this all the way through.

Characters? Peh. If you hadn't figured it out already, I hate them all. Chizuru is annoying, Kouta is a total pussy (typical male lead, really.) and Nozomu has no depth and development at all. The side characters are mostly unremarkable, too. Though the twins were kind of cute, and Chizuru's mother was awesome. That's about it though. There were some 'bad people' who had zero development and the reasons behind their actions were never disclosed or resolved. So yeah, piss weak writing. No development at all.

Overall, I was going to give it a four, as it's bad. But the very, very end after the credits of episode 12 pleased me, so it bumps up to a five: One point each for Mamiko and Ayako, one point for being kemonomimi, one point for being a comedy, and one point for the very end. Zero points for animation, story, characters, music or anything else. Probably more than it deserves, really. This is by all means a very mediocre show without much of anything to offer, however if you want mindless ecchi school comedy, then this will hit the spot.

you know what is killing me?

This series has a HIGHER ranking in MAL than Wagaya no Oinari-sama!! WHAT? Although it doesn't explicitly show any sexual intercourse like in hentai (this defines the line between ecchi and hentai), it went really overboard....

How can it compare to relatively good series like Wagaya (and even beat it)? I fail to understand people here....But I guess the problem is Wagaya is too underrated. The first episode was at fault....

It's not over for me. I still need to force myself through the final 4 episodes over the next couple days, so then I can focus on a possibly GOOD 12-ep series, like Kure-nai.

Even if I tried to write a review for Kanokon, yours pretty much hit the spot. Good job with the review.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, characters weren't much developed and the story 'SEEMED' to be good, but after all it turned out to be just a filler between all the senseless echi.
I usually like echi animes, I think this is the 1º one I didn't. I mean, comparing this with Girls Bravo for example, Kanokon is junk!! o.O

I was gonna give it a 4/10, but I thought it would be too bad of a score ^^; ... so I gave it a 5/10, as there were some parts that were enjoyable.
