TTGL's spiritual granddaddy. If you ever wanted to know what the writing and animation staff watched in their free time, chances are that this is it.

Both are modern adaptations of classic super robot anime, which basically defined the whole genre. Both focus on violent and hot-blooded main characters who fight against powerful foes. Both have a similar feel and plot elements, and were originally created by Go Nagai (although Getter Robo is a collaboration between Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa).

"Modern" OVA's of classic Super Robot anime's that define the entire genre. Getter Robo and Mazinger Z both get a "current" day anime style animation with "Real Robot" (if you are familiar with that genre) elements thrown in. Thus creating bad ass sequels to both classic Super Robot series that set the bar for everything Mecha anime.

These two take place in an similar apocalyptic setting and have evil giant monsters that are trying to kill off humanity. The main hero in these two anime are hot blooded and wants to destroy evil monsters in order to save humanity. These two anime also have a similar dark tone and plenty of blood & gore.

Although very different in execution, I think Getter Robo and Gundam IBO are connected by the theme of violent and hot-headed protagonists rushing into battles. Lots of action, blood, twists and drama in both anime.

These two mecha anime are set in a world where the Earth has become a wasteland and humanity is under the attack of monsters. The main character in both these anime have to save the world by using a giant robot and fight those monsters as their only purpose in life.

Horror mecha series that hinges around a small group of characters in a post-apocalyptic setting. High stakes right from the start. Impactful action scenes with robots getting into visceral fights with nasty monsters. Solid direction throughout. Even when the plot thins, the action grips you.

Gritty, hot-blooded super robot action. Lots of yelling and shouting attack names with a rock-style soundtrack. The main character is introduced as a travelling “lone wolf” who ends up teaming up to battle against a planet-sized mutant robot monster to save the Earth.

Both anime have many similar elements, including: - Similar setting (Earth turned into a wasteland) - Violent and hot-blooded main characters - Mecha - Non-stop GAR action - A lot of violence, blood and gore - Similar vibe and atmosphere

Both have old-style art and manly leads.

The style of drama in both shows is very similiar, as is the artwork.

Getter and Mazinger, two of the ultimates in the Super Robot Genre. If you want ridiculously manly characters, insane action, kickass robots and ridiculous amounts of awesome, both deliver. Oh good lord do they ever deliver.

Both a are over-the-top mecha shows that go crazy in scale and awesomeness. They provide the same vibe of exiting epicness, but take a while to get to the good part.

Since Getter Robo appeared in Robot Girls Z, like with my Shin Mazinger recommendation, this is a more modern remake with its own continuity.
