Both are old animes with lots of violence, action and violence on it. Two masterpieces of the gender and same goes for the manga that you won't stop reading/watching before it's over.

Both anime are based on typical 80's shounen manga, full of badass characters and exaggerated manliness. Both series also have several characters and techniques named after heavy metal and rock bands/musicians, like Black Sabbath, Beatles, Metallica and Yes.

Both have main character who is more antiheroe than heroe. Both have magic, dragons, fights and a lot of ecchi moments. Similar humour taste. Hagure Yuusha has better technical quality but Bastard has better story.

Same style but short and without humor

Bastard and Detroit Metal City are from totally different genres, but both anime pays an interesting homage to the heavy metal icons and its sub-culture, which may appeal to the metalhead viewers.

Both are epic medieval fantasy anime, featuring monsters and knights. Both have a lot of gritty action, gore and violence. The main protagonists in both anime have similar anti-heroic personalities.

These animes are both different in terms of protagonists, they are both about a character that gets depicted very early on as the villain, besides that, they are both mages and both wields powerful magic to beat their enemies, in overlord however they are almost always beaten overwhelmingly, but both the animes have a great many things in common, however where they differ is that Bastard!! is a fantasy, whilst Overlord is about a gamer trapped in a gaming world of a closed game, now turning all the npc's into actual sentient beings, but even though, the series differ, they are also quite similar in  read more

Both have gruff badass swordsmen who are even drawn similar enough to be brothers. Similar adult themes and general dark tone.

Both come from the early 90's so have similar animation styles. Both deal with the supernatural, demons, and magic. They are gory and violent.

Similar humor, Enma-kun has more chaotic jokes though. Main characters have similar personalities - both are conceited, lecherous and unprincipled hotheads who use overpowered magic.

Both anime titles take place in a similar fantasy world with magic, swordsmen and monsters. Both have a lot of comedy and action. Dragon Knight is much more ecchi and comedic while Bastard is more violent and has more action. Both anime were also created around the same period (early 1990's) with similar animation and a similar tone. If you like one, you should enjoy the other.

Both are old-school OVA based on Shonen Jump manga from the 1980's. Both anime were made around the same period, and have similar animation. They also have a lot of over the top violent action. Both JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Bastard!! have characters and attacks that are references to popular music bands and popular music artists.

Slayers and Bastard!! are anime from the 1990's that are set in a similar fantasy world with magic, swordsmen and monsters. Slayers is more lighthearted and comedy oriented while Bastard!! is darker and violent. Both titles have a good mix of action and comedy with over the top characters. If you enjoyed one, you will enjoy the other.

both have a hot headed hero adventuring with a quirky young girl whom he meets in the first episode. both heroes' past has a tragic story with a mature angst woman who comes back to haunt them in their present life.

Zenki and Bastard seem to have the same enitial storyline... A medevil sorcerer, protecting a girl, living, for the most part, in the body of a little boy. Both sorcerers seem to share a similar background (evil in their day) and the same quirky personality traits, both can return to their old form when very annoyed. If you like one, watch the other, they are so, so similar.

Expect wizardry and medieval fantasy in both

Kazushi Hagiwara is the creator of Bastard!! was very involved with the creation of Bakuen Campus Guardress. Guardress features his character designs of busty babes and virile men. Guardress also features the same perverted sense of humor as Bastard!!

If you liked the main character in Bastard you will also like the main character in Sorcerer on the Rocks (Chivas 1-2-3) as they are almost the same. That attitude, mind and absolutely overwhelming power is there as well. The world in which these series take place is also almost identical dealing with wizards and magic. Bastard is a bit longer as Chivas has only 2 episodes but non the less as they are very similar if you liked one of them you will enjoy the other.

high fantasy with an intense drama-filled story that is stuffed with comic relieves. both are pretty campy to say the least...
