Yuusha Exkaiser

the exact reasons are a spoiler but it'll make sense if you watch it 

While different genres (magical girl / super robot), both feature a very young protagonist that gets most of the screen time, focusing on day to day life, but does no actual fighting. The fighting is done by (group of) protector(s) that steps in to save the day, then to quickly vanish thereafter. In both shows, the bad guys are a group of hilarious small fries, led by a pure evil head honcho.  

The Yuusha (Exkaiser and sequels) and Eldran (Raijonoh and sequels) series were direct competitors at release and featured similar elements. Both feature episodic stories with just a simple overarching storyline, huge robots, sympathetic clumsy antagonists, protagonists in a school setting and enjoyable daily life stories usually leading an action packed ending. Fans of one might enjoy the other as well.
