Everyone knows that Gundam is a mecha show like Macross.
This version of Gundam has a pop star idol who sings and a love triangle involving the protagonist which is quiet similar to the Macross Formula

Similar to AKB0048, this includes Idols, mecha and singing ! I found that this gave the same rush of "oh this is just another cute girl anime" however the deeper plot is quickly revealed

Both of these are sci-fi action anime involving singing girls/idols fighting (although the singing girls themselves fight more in Symphogear).

Sounds like Kakumeiki Valvrave, where one of its characters is an idol. Quiet and shy protangonist as well.

Both are anime about a musical theme, a lot of cute girls, a rival group of pretty boys, mechs, and war against aliens.

Differences: Lagrange has 3 girls and Macross has 5, Lagrange has a female protagonist and Macross has a male protagonist, Macross has pop idols and Lagrange doesn't.

Macross Delta and Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song are science fiction anime that involves idols dragged into a conflict to save the world. Vivy successfully builds on the legacy of the Macross franchise as being an idol is a significant part of the storyline. Macross Delta might follow the same formula as its predecessors, but knowing the Macross lore isn't needed to enjoy this series. Vivy is a much more action oriented series compared to Macross Delta, which has to develop a love triangle.

Aside from both being sci-fi/mecha, they have great character and relationship development, interesting side characters. Plus, Macross Delta is a music anime, so expect tons of great songs!

Space Battleship Yamato and Macross are two very well known space opera franchises that have had lasting cultural impact in Japan. These latest iterations brings their stories to a modern audience. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is a remake of the original series. Macross Delta is nominally a sequel, but it features a new cast and viewers do not need to be familiar with the earlier series. Interplanetary warfare, politics, and camaraderie are important themes in these series. If you loved these themes then you do not want to skip this recommendation.

Musical and action....both, may have some different genre, but the two are more on the musical than the plot, also both are more on the anime's artistic side that anything else, so one could forget about the plot and just focus on the songs, that's a way lot of songs to download.
