This series, brought to you by Kawamori Shouji and studio Satelight, begins when a plucky young girl with a can-do attitude runs away from home. Having been introduced to illicit pop music as a child, she's chasing after her dream of becoming an idol. While en route to the audition... and so and so forth...
AKB0048 is heavily influenced by the Macross franchise (minus all those icky boys). In turn, Macross Delta feels inspired by AKB0048, tweaking and reusing its ideas within Macross canon.
But long story short:
AKB0048 is an idol series with a lot of mecha.
Macross Delta is a mecha series with a lot of idols.
