"Elitist" has been a very generic and broad term to generalise many types of not-so-mainstream or "deep" anime, so this list is very diverse and it's criteria are not always clear cut and objective. Nonetheless I try to provide a proper explanation for why each entry is included. Generally speaking these are shows that fit one OR more of these adjectives: Experimental, Avant-Garde, Psychological, Philosophical, Obscure, Classic, Critically Acclaimed, Artsy, Old, etc...

Some shows here are not necessarily obscure or underground at all, but they are still here because they have been stereotyped as "elitist" by the community over time, due to their experimental or artsy nature. Similarly, some shows here are not necessarily artsy or experimental in nature, but their old/underwatched/obscure nature gives them a reason to be here. Not all aspects have to be checked to be included. Only one per franchise.

I have personally watched the great majority of the anime in this list, but there are a couple which I haven't. Still added them because of how strongly they are stereotyped as "elitist" or have fitting characteristics to be classified as such. I know my list still lacks many essential classics, I will continue to add and expand into this list as I watch those personally.

Mecha? Super robot? Real robot? Androids? Cyborgs? Mechanical suits? All of them, fuck it. All have their merits and should be appreciated by all. Only really recommending stuff I have seen or have general enough knowledge of! (i'm pretty new to this sorry)

These are the anime that appear in Super Robot Wars 64, for the Nintendo 64.
It also serves as a roster for Super Robot Wars Link Battler for the Game Boy Colour, since they share a roster (deliberately so).

These are the anime that appear in Super Robot Wars Alpha for PlayStation and Dreamcast.

A protagonist duo that watches each others backs or one of the duo providing support to the more able partner.

Through teamwork they are able to overcome dangerous situations and overcome their opponents, though some duos may start off incompatible but develop throughout the series as they get to know each other better.

The lists come from many different sources, mostly blogs and forum polls, as well as a few lists made by critics, animators, and journalists. I used both old and new lists, and I avoided lists that focus on a single genre or a single decade.

The list is ranked by points. An anime receives points for each list it appears on. For polls, an anime receives points proportional to the number of votes, with weights adjusted to prevent individual polls from having too much influence. All anime in the top 100 appear on at least 5 lists.

Since Mecha/Space animes is somewhat not appreciated nowadays by the general people, i'm making a list to someone who want to see more than the surface of what it offers.

So my list will be filled unpopular Mecha/Space that is worth watching.

Anime directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa.

This stack will show anime with broad ecologic themes.

Parameters for what makes anime ecological; First it must have message about the state of an nature; secondly the nature will be under distress be it by a pollution, deforestation, collapse of ecosystem etc... Or the anime is of an education kind than it only needs too show how does the nature works.

What does not make ecological anime. Appearance of a one note eco villain eg. existent of Poison Ivy in Batman doesn't make it a ecological story.
