Shiny colorful mecha fighting an initially much stronger enemy. Starting out with some occasionally even absurd bits, but after a while the darker secrets start to raise their heads.

This has nothing to do with mechs. But the same concept of being a Hero is here. Both series uses the main characters as a way of entertainment. The "sponsors" brand them for publicity purposes while they face their adversary.

The focus on the use of children as soldiers to fight while the adults are forced to just watch on the sidelines are true for both these series. In Majestic Prince, we have the genetically engineered children who were raised for the sole purpose of being exceptional soldiers in the fight against the Wulgaru. In Fafner, the children on Tatsumiyajima were all genetically engineered to be able to pilot the Fafner mechas.

Earth is under attack by an advanced alien race. The only effective weapon against these aliens are unique mechas piloted by group of genetically modified children. Genetic modification, however, comes with a cost... Majestic Prince explores this topic superficially. It is presented, but without depth and meaning for the children. Darling in the FranXX develops this topic more completely for the viewer. It is a central theme to the series instead of a peripheral one.

Genre: Space, Sci-fi, mecha, drama The character designs are made by the same artist and are similar. The stories involve humanity being severely outgunned and threatened with extinction by a fearsome alien force. The motivations for the aliens' desire to fight humanity are both interesting and extend beyond simple "evil empire wants to conquer you" plots. The aliens also look very similar. There is a focus on main characters that aren't seen as the typical heroes and aren't well-understood or appreciated by their comrades. As the stories progress, things change and the main characters prove themselves to be more reliable and capable than previously thought.

An odd recommendation, true, but I'm making this one purely on the basis that these 2 shows are the ultimate proof that, in the right places, 3D-CGI can make possible some of the most awesome action anime has to offer. If you aren't convinced that 3D animation has legitimate merit, then with any luck you'll find that these shows will put your unwarranted distaste for it to rest. Both are also pretty funny, with the key difference being that Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince doesn't seem to be like that on purpose. Etotama's packed with anarchic scenarios and larger-than-life characters that make it a laugh-a-minute series, while  read more

Both are mecha anime, that are full of action. And both give out the same feeling. Neither are too unique, but still well done. If you like one try out the other one, you'll definitely like it

- The main character is composed of one group consisting from several members (Team Rabit have 6 members & Team D have 5 members) - Ange Kuroki (6th Member of Team Rabit) & Eida Rossa (5th Member of Team D) joined The Main Team later in last arc. Also both character have a problem when first joined with The Main Team. - The Main Base of both team (Rose Colony & Dragon Hive) can be transformed into Single big attack unit - Both anime have alot similar characters, Example : Rin Suzukaze & Tanaka, both character is commander of Team Rabbit & Team D - Both Mecha unit was  read more

Both are mecha, but is not only focused on fights, I feel like they pay attention to the characters and part of their lives in that situation. Also, in Majestic Prince, they're all teenagers and Gurren Lagann has a teenager as a protagonist too.

Both are character focused action mecha and have concept about heroes.

Both have almost same comedy vibes, even though they are very different genres.

Both series feature teams of young pilots with a focus on their relationships and bonding, and also well made CGI mecha action. Both series also have a relatively wholesome overall atmosphere, with adults in the supporting cast who are not only competent, but also care for the young fighters they command.

Both are mecha series that have an overall lighthearted and comedic tone, but still contain darker, more serious, and sad plot threads and moments throughout the story. Both also feature mysterious enemies of alien origin, and otaku MCs (in Nadesico Akito is a mecha otaku, whereas in MJP Izuru is more of a toku otaku and aspiring mangaka)

Rinne no Lagrange and Majestic Prince both feature good-hearted misfits that aspire to be heroes with their new found power. They each also have alternative mecha designs that explore limits beyond typical biped mechanics.

Both have mechas to fight with. (Dragons- in Dragonaut and AHSBM units- in Majestic Prince). Both have to fight enemy from unknown race. Both are set in space

Captain Earth and Majestic Prince have similar content in it's story and genre, like a Mecha action, and aliens invading a human planet. The antagonist are mostly an alien species that are invading a human planet with their reasons and the protagonist, mostly a group, or teamwork, will prevent them from conquering the planet. They clash between each other, and have a wide variety of weapon armaments that gives them the upper hand to defeat one another.

The concept of being a hero is present in both series. MJP takes place in the near future and has Gundam like machines. While in Samurai Flamenco takes place in modern day. Hitachi Izuru's whole ideal was to be just like a hero. He idealizes the hero in the manga he read. Same with Hazama Masayoshi who also wants to be a hero. After watching Harakiri Sunshine ( Kamen Rider)

In both anime, humanity is at war with another, more advanced species of humans. The "advanced species" in both series has a similar hierarchical society. Both are quite generic mecha shows so they have a lot of other tropes and clichés in common as well.

Putting together the recommendation is difficult without giving spoilers, yet both deal with similar themes that if one has seen one I think they'll know what I'm talking about. Both are also about the struggle of accepting said theme and the denial which goes along with it.

Knights of Sidonia and Majestic Prince follow the experiences of a group of mecha pilots as they fight to protect humanity against an alien race. In Knights of Sidonia, humanity has been reduced to fleeing in a colony ship following the destruction of Earth by aliens. The aliens are impossible to understand and cannot be communicated with. Every day of survival is a victory. In Majestic Prince, humanity has just started its fight to protect the Earth from invasion. The aliens have clear intentions and do not want any negotiation or peace. Every mission is a step closer to victory against this technologically superior race.  read more

Mecha anime has long ago experience a decline in popularity from its peak during the 80s and 90s. Anyone still exploring this genre must watch Macross because it is a formative title. Macross also influenced most anime dealing with interplanetary warfare. Majestic Prince is an easily overlooked mecha anime with interplanetary warfare that was released after the resurgence in mecha anime during the 2000s. It hits all the elements that space and mecha anime fans love. Although Majestic Prince brings nothing new to the table, it is a respectable entry in the space and mecha canon. If you've seen all the popular titles then  read more

Space battles against overwhelming forces. Ecchi and romantic themes. the drama of loss , and the combonations the mecha can perform.

The first episode of Ginga Kikoutai definitely gave off a strong Gundam Seed vibe. The art and animation style is very similar and there are epic mecha fight sequences. The premise is somewhat similar being set in colonies in outerspace where young people have to rise to the challenge and fight for freedom and whatnot in mobile suits.

In both series, the themes of mecha action comes into play involving the many characters of the series. The main characters are in fact students from an academy. Both series features the usage of mecha warfare where the pilots are also identified as being special. In particular, the main character from both series seems to hold special origins. There is comedy, drama, and action involved in both series that also incorporates the science fiction theme.

Similar story and mecha action. Young pilots must work together and defeat the "aliens." The aliens are advance species who are above all humankind. Wulgaru=Vegans

These two anime are similar in that the humans use the enemy's technology to battle against them. Both of the enemies' goal involves the destruction of humanity. Many of the battles have surprising outcomes. Some political aspects are introduced.

-Main character is obsessed with being a hero -Sponsors and the main team's actions are publicized -Teamwork is key -Mecha/power suits -Team consists of members with very different personalities -Comical character interactions in and outside of battle -Tragic backgrounds involving family -"Trust your partner(s)"

Macross Frontier and Majestic Prince both have very fast paced and highly detailed space-opera mecha action with a dash of vibrant colors.
