Both have not only the same theme of the effect of war on children, but the general atmosphere of the playfulness of children and their families. While Those left Behind is usually taken to be the more popular of the two, Rail of the Star talks about other things in family relationships and seems to expand more the characters of not just the main lead girl but others. I think the story of Rail of The Star is more unique, but I liked both anyway and if you saw one, you should definitely see the other.

A child's-eye-view of WWII. Stories about hiding and escaping, albeit from different sides of the war and in different parts of the world.

Set during WWII, with a focus on the Pacific theatre. Both are about how ordinary people are affected by the war. Rail of the Stars focuses on Japanese families working and living in occupied Korea, whilst In This Corner of the World focuses on a small traditional Japanese household in the port of Kure, Hiroshima.

Another anti-war movie featuring the life of children during WW2. And besides, both are based on true life stories.
