Both are remakes of the beginning of anime shows though Evangelion changed more things while Madoka Magica's plot is the same. They both have similar dark impressions. They are both about a group of people fighting against unknown creatures that are threatening to destroy humans. Even with these normal sounding plots, they are actually much deeper than they appear at first. Both Shinji and Madoka are faced with difficult decisions while being told to both do and not do something to save everyone. Sayaka develops in a similar way to Asuka and both of them just want to impress (and help) the person they love  read more

They don't have a similar setting at all, but they share the same thriller feeling. Both are heavily psychological and involve mysterious characters from different timelines.

Both anime focus on cute girls fighting monsters that threaten their world. They both use magical girl elements in a non-traditional way. Both anime have heartwarming slice of life scenes which contrast the darker and more psychological ones. The events of both anime also happen in mysterious worlds, and both have some dark plot twists. Also, both anime have a similar mood and surreal art.

Both anime share similar Faustian motifs, featuring characters who sell their soul in order to get special powers. Both have incredibly stylish action, combined with darker themes of tragedy and psychological thriller, with a grim and eerie atmosphere hiding behind a facade of comedy and cheerfulness. Both anime also feature modern takes on classic folklore and mythological creatures, such as demons, grim reapers, and witches.

Both movies are the first in their respective movie series, and they both recap the events happening in the respective TV shows. Both anime deconstruct other anime from their respective genre, with Ideon being a deconstruction of mecha anime and Madoka Magica being a deconstruction of magical girl anime. Both shows feature young protagonists, who must use an unknown power in a battle against individuals from another race. Both shows have an overall similar mood.

Both are magical girl anime that start off with a simple premise but get darker as the story goes on. They contain a lot of metaphors and symbolism, and often use surreal imagery. The overall mood and atmosphere they create is similar too.

Shinbo may not have had a part in the Nanoha movie. But he was the director of the original Nanoha TV series. Keizo Kusakawa was an understudy of Shinbo at the time, and then took over with the rest of the Nanoha series including these movies. Both anime introduce a unprecedented amount of maturity and violence to the Magical Girl genre. Madoka being written with an objective to shock and awe with a graphic nature and complex story, while Nanoha focuses on a more subtle approach of a mature emotional narrative and intense action. Nanoha Second A's continues the series with an even better showing  read more

Both anime are deconstructions of shows from their respective genres, with Madoka★Magica being a deconstruction of magical girl anime, and Evangelion being a deconstruction of mecha anime. Both have main characters with similar characteristics and who develop in similar ways, especially Madoka and Shinji, who often wallow in self-pity and act mostly when they have to save others. These anime also have similar concepts, as they both focus on children who have to fight against monsters, and they both have apocalyptic elements. They also have surreal imagery, and overall create a similar mood and atmosphere.

Both anime have a very innocent look, which contradicts their true nature, because these anime are quite dark. In both anime, the main protagonists are young girls. Also, in both anime, there are several timelines with the events changing in each of them. Apart from these, both anime have a similar feel to them.
