Both Orphen and Slayers take place in a fantasy relm, but the similarities don't end there. Magic, Dragons, journeys, crazy side-kicks, wacky-ness & comedy along with a serious side flow through Slayers as much as it does Orphen. In Slayers the main character is an infamous Sorceress known for her most dangerous spell- (Dragon Slave).
-Both involve magic/spells done by the main character and support charris and a special sword
-The main characters travel in a group. In Slayers is two people traveling together(A guy and a girl) with other characters that come and go. In Orphen its three people traveling together(2 guys and one girl)
-Slayers had quite a bit more cheese then Orphen but both are entertaining

Fantasy with lots of sorcery and adventure are the things that define these anime's. Comedy is inevitable too. Battle evil with magical powers in these action packed anime's.
Hunters and Orphen share a very similar atmosphere when it comes to fighting creatures at least in season one of Orphen for sure. Both shows focus on a small group of people on a mission of one kind or another. They both have similar humor and battle styles as well as animation and even voices to a degree.
The main difference is in one anime they hunt sorcerers and in the other they hunt dragons. Orphen also has stronger tones of romance well serious romance anyway. I think if you enjoyed either you would find a great interest in the other. In Hunters they use a lot more risky character designs for the female leads.
Despite a lot of similarities the shows main characters are nothing a like really. One being very serious and confident and the other being clueless and perverted. They also have very opposite art styles one being minimalistic and the other being fairly well detailed.

Although completely different in tone and setting, they are both are about a group of people(or just two people in Spice and Wolf) going on an adventure with a supernatural being(Orphen being a Sorcerer and Holo being a Wolf God) to complete a certain goal(In Orphen; to return Azalie to human form, in Spice and Wolf; to bring Holo back to her homeland). Along the way, they face many obstacles, which strengthen the bond between them, as they depend more and more on each other.
Both have good-short-down to root action sequences(although their is a little more action in Orphen). Both are based off a series of light novels. Both have a good mix of comedy, drama, and action. Both have good plot twists. Both have excellent English dubs. Both have an interesting setting, and both leave you wanting to see more.
Spice and Wolf is more developed(with both characters) while a lot of development goes into Orphen's story.
Orphen is an older anime(1998), while Spice and Wolf is newer (2008)
The world of Spice and Wolf is more explained than in Orphen(that doesn't mean the world of Orphen isn't interesting).
Both are great.

These are might and magic stories, not to mention clichy. Orphen seems like what Hameln would have been if it had been lighter and it's closer to the manga version of Hameln, gags and all(although Orphen has better animation). Both uses classic art and RPG-like adventures. They also have the main lead take a girl along the way who usually gets into trouble. There's also a two-timer in Orphen just like the Hameln manga.
Edit: Just noticed the female leads also share the same seiyuu.

The spells that the main characters cast are very similar, in fact the main characters are almost the same, let me quote them:
Ryder: "Motomeru wa raimei Itzuchi"
Orphen: "Ware michi biku wa shi no o mukudori"
