Blue Gender is the largely unknown AND under-appreciated survival gem that came LONG before the fall of Wall Maria. The grim, 'horror' tone so rarely seen in anime as characters are introduced only to be killed off without mercy (initially, in Attack on Titan) is present in both. Both anime shows feature the last of the human race fighting against the monsters that have brought them to the brink of extinction. In Blue Gender, those monsters are the bug-like creatures known as the Blue and in attack on titan, you have the giant humanoid titans. In both shows, you get a plethora of emotional deaths and angst.

Both anime present humanity's struggle for survival. The enemies are quite similar, they are only interested in eating humans. In both shows humanity ends up having to resist in just 1 base.1 other similarity is that the main character has a power that is based upon that of the enemies and that he has problems in maintaining control over it.

Both feature mysterious, difficult to kill monsters hell bent on heating the human race for shits and giggles. With the final remnants of humanity having been driven back to one last safe haven. Both lay the fate of the world at the feet of an emotionally unstable teenage boy, and regularly kill off other cast members. Both are pretty violent, and have long meandering pacing that stretch a 2 hour story into a 20+ episode slog.
